CCFL Inverter power problem

Guys, i'm pretty new to this stuff, and I know this is probably a newbish question but I'm tired of messing with it on my own, and afraid that "testing" my results will end up frying something...I just got my lianli 6077 case (badass but drive mounting is a pain) in today, complete with a logisys CCFL fan. When I use the backplate switch to turn the CCFL off, windows bluescreens with the enlightening, "There has been a serious error. Contact the system vendor" message.

I'm assuming this is because I somehow have things hooked up wrong and the hard drive loses power...Is there a rule about how inverters must be hooked up in the power chain?
 
I doubt it's your power supply being dangerously low, or other things would've happened.

If the CCFL fan is connected along where it also later goes into the hard drive, seperate it and have the harddrive have it's own line of power. See if that works.

This sounds more like a question for the power supply forum, though.

Sounds right on to me, hd power is dipping too low.
I had the same thing happen when i had my ccfl's daisy chained with my hd.

Switched it to it's own lead and everythign works great now.
 
I tell everyone to always save a lead from the PSU for CCFLs only. That means no drives on that chain at all. Not even CD-ROMs
 
Actually, that was the first thing I did...The inverter is seperated from everything else.

I can't see running out of juice from my PSU because it's a 350 watt enermax, and my system is rather piddly in terms of power drain...3 fans and a dvd burner. Any other suggestions?
 
i hardwired my ccfls to be on as long as computer has power.. they last 3 years anyway...
