does ccfl need to be horizontal or can it be veritcal? the reason i ask is because i install one vertical last week and only the top half of the tube will light. :(
 
They can be either. The reason why your CCFL is like that is more than likely due to that inner part of your CCFL (if you were to break it open, it's like a layer of powder) is not there. I have the same problem with one of my 12" Blue CCFLs towards the very tip, but even then it's noticable.

I didn't RMA it because I was given it free after FrozenCPU found out they gave me a 12" instead of a requested 4."
