CCENT/CCNA [H] study group

I'm working through the CCNA class from Cisco's Network Academy. It's been fun, and really enjoying Packet Tracer. Haven't build anything serious but it's very handy.
 
Today is a huge study day for me. Tomorrow is my ICND2 exam. Been labbing it up, read Odom's and Lammle's book, CBT videos, forums.... Still nervous as hell, though.

Any practice exam? Go buy Boson ICND2 practice exam its well worth it and even harder then the real thing.

Why buy a practice exam when you can just go take the real exam? If you fail it then no biggie, you can always re-take it.

I don't like failing. If I'm going to spend money on books, videos, and lab gear then shit I'll spend $99 on a test that's harder then the real thing so i make sure i pass. :D

Don't ask. I did extremely well on subnetting (VERY well on subnetting) and WAN, but didn't pass due to my lack of in-depth knowledge of NAT/ACL's. So, I'm studying my ass off for the next few weeks on those two topics until I know them extremely well.
 
I just did the NAT section, Easy stuff.

I am just confused about using a pool with PAT. When you use a pool intstead of the interface for PAT why would the router decide to use more than the first ip address in the pool? if it uses up all 65000 possible connections? is a pool used to support more connections then a single ip address can handle?

I'm in need of a 3550 switch for my Voice and CCNP studies. My question for anyone who has this switch. If I buy the SMI version, can I upload the EMI IOS and use it?
 
Should I hate the CCENT after Odom's ICND1 book or wait for until I'm ready for the full test? Often the smaller tests are harder.

What do you mean? you took the Bosom test that comes with that book and it was hard?

The consensus seems to be to take them separately unless you're already pretty comfortable with most of the material already (ie you already work in the field supporting cisco gear and just want to formalize the experience into a cert.)
 
hello everyone, I have been following this thread for the past month or so and I went and took my CCNA for the first time today. The questions were tough. Be sure to read the questions fully, as I almost clicked next without fully answering the questions a couple times. Luckily I caught my self since you cant go back. But good news, I PASSED! :D . I only had 1 IPv6 question and it had to do with tunneling. I also only had 1 frame relay question which I found to be odd. Be sure to know your ACLs and fully understand how they work. Good luck to anyone that is going to take their exams!

Passed the ICND1. Did well, except apparently my WiFi background is weak. Got a 67% on that section - had only done the 'Do I Already Know This?" quiz from the ICND1 book and watched the CBT Nuggets video for that. Ah well. Nailed 3 sections with 100%.
 
For the people with the CCNA, would you recommend taking the ICND1 and ICND2 tests separately effectively giving me a CCENT until I pass the second test for the CCNA, or just take the combine test at once and get the CCNA?

I am about to finish the ICDN1 book and while I know a good amount of the ICDN2 material already, not sure what the best route is, test wise.

Strongly in favor of ICND1&2 route. I just took mine in part so I could say that I'm Cisco Certified now rather than later. I'm in the middle of two large projects and just having a network certification adds weight to my recommendations.. now.. rather than in a few months when I'm ready to take ICND2. (Because also with what's going on, I don't have much time to study currently, so it'll be a while before I'm ready for that part.)
 
Congrats to Cordilla and damacus. Hope you guys don't mind the fluff post but gotta give a pat on the back when it's due. :D

If you are comfortable with the material just take the combined test. I took it a while back since I had let my Cisco certs lapse and it wasn't really that bad. No one will care that you are CCENT for the most part. The fewer tests you take, the less it costs (unless your employer is paying for them and then it really doesn't matter).
