CCC + W7 weird issue...

I woke up to the lack of an ATi logo in my taskbar, fair enough, I uninstalled and re-installed, same issue. I can not get the ATi driver to install. Everything else is working properly... just not this.

Anyone else had this issue? It works fine in Vista, so I don't think it's my hardware. I've tried re-installing the 9.8's, Catalyst Hotfix, even tried down to 9.6's. Safe-Mode with driver sweeper, nothing seems to work. I'm getting angry with this.

Why you using such an old driver on Windows 7? They have 9.8 available for download on ATI's site for windows 7.

ahh ok. Was it a fresh install of 7? I sure don't miss the ATI driver loading issues. I would pray before every driver update.

Taskbar or Notification Area?

If you're using W7 are you sure you haven't just accidentally disabled the icon in the Taskbar "Notification Area" options?

Control Panel -> Taskbar and Start Menu -> Notification Area -> Customize

Check there to be sure?

Or see if its just in the "hidden" area and click on the arrow to show the rest of the icons.

It wasn't hidden, I'm getting errors trying to re-install...

Driver Install: the installation failed

Jesus now I'm getting a MOM.Implementation error. Fucking 6 hours. All I wanted to do today was play wolfenstein before work. Thanks again for another miserable experience with your lackluster products, ATi.

I was going to suggest you look over at Rage3D, but I see you've already posted there.
Good luck.

Latest version of netframe?

Just tried 4.0. Nothing.

Try a fresh install? Dont let the machine load any drivers that it gets from updating online. I've had so many issues in the past trying to get their drivers to install. I found if you ever get it right... don't touch it again :)

Fresh install of the drivers or W7? I'm sort of hesitant to reload W7 because of the RTM coming out sooner than later...

Don't blame ya but a fresh install might be what it takes if you cant locate the problem.

Try uninstalling from device manager and unistallign whatever installs in add/remove programs?

that was the first thing I tried... I hope ATi goes out of business real soon.

I'm telling you what, ATI is doing EVERYTHING they can to make sure I buy a GTX380 or whatever.

Ghost your current OS and reinstall up to where you can try to install the CATs.
I know it sucks, but it's what I'd try.

No, to see if it's a software problem. That's what I'm guessing.

Well I know a reformat would work. I'm tryin to avoid that.

You got me curious, I just downloaded Cat 9.8 and 9.7 on my machine to see if I had any problems also. I had zero problems installing either of them. All I did was use the ATI Catalyst Install Manager from Programs and Features in the control panel. I did not use device manager or driver sweeper or anything else to remove the drivers first. The last time I had to resort to Driver Sweeper was when I was dealing with WDM driver issues under WinXP with an ATI AIW X1900 card...and that was nearly 2 years ago. Been using above method since then, zero issues, zero performance difference.

Control Panel>Programs and Features
Select ATI Catalyst Install Manager, then select "change"

Try all 3 options, starting with the Repair install option.

I have run into your same problem a few times in the past. Usually re-downloading the driver would fix the problem, meaning my download was corrupted somehow.
This leads me to think AMD might have a server issue or the original file was corrupt, then slyly replaced by an admin 5 minutes later when he realized the problem...

The only other thing I can think of is try right clicking the icon and selecting "run as administrator." Every once in a while Vista or Win7 thinks I'm a power user instead of an Admin. Never been able to figure out why or how, but the "run as administrator" option usually fixed the problem.

Yesterday I killed every single ATI file (clean uninstall and install) on W7 RC 64 bit OS and did a clean install with the Windows Hotfix 9.8 which is working well so far.

So far I have noticed that the Resident Evil 5 Benchmark doesn't work well with the direct X10.

Been doing some research....

The "MOM.implementation error" that you are getting almost always refers to some sort of .net framework problem, usually meaning your missing the latest version or patch from microsoft. Being Win7, it should already have the latest version anyways.

If I had to guess, Driver Sweeper was a tad bit aggressive as it has been known to do, and it deleted a key .net framework file that it thought was ATI. ATI's installation looks for file, finds its not there, and the install could have failed that way.

If you insist on using Driver Sweeper, I would recommend version 2.0.5 or better. However, as I stated before, Driver Sweeper is rarely necessary for ATI drivers on Vista and Win7.

Thanks for the replies.
The thing is, the computer turned on to that problem randomly.

Those are things I've actually already tried :( I'm screwed I guess. :/

Yeah, do a fresh install. Even if you get it to finally load who knows if its going to be working right or performing its best. The OS isnt even out yet so its hard to pass judgement on ATI's drivers. They will eventually get it right..... eventually :)

Error messages

can someone please tell me what the warning is in here? Catalyst install insists there's one.. I fail to see it.

^ Looks like the log either got cut off during the copy & paste right at the error messages section, he didn't select that portion or it wasn't in the log to begin with.

It ends right there. I'm not retarded.
