worth popping the top off this chip, I'm thinking its got an extremely bad ihs mount as temps are 40c at 1.8, my question is whether its worth popping the top off it and going for the gusto or just selling it? what do you guys think

Btw this is on water with a swiftech storm

First off make sure you have a good mount with your wb, if it is a good mount then pop the top if you are comfortable. If you are nervous about it don't risk slipping to far and chipping a cap. Tried ocing it yet and if so how far has it goine?

If you can't overclock this to a minimum of 2.7ghz then your doing sumthin wrong. Maybe your wb is not making full contact. but these overclock like beasts.

those are idle temps? I would remount that sucker.. put a dab of AS5 right in the middle of the IHS and put the sink down on that, twist a little side to side with downward (gentle) pressure, to spead the AS5 out, then clamp it on.. that should do the trick. that's one of the best OCing duallies out there; it (as stated) should do 2.7 at default vcore minimum.. maybe 2.8..

i have a ccb1e 0609 fpmw here.
when i first got the chip i o/ced to 2.8 at stock volts right off the bat. i hit 47-48c at full load with an apogee using 2 rads...
popped the top and dropped the load down to 40-41c.
running at 2961@1.4v now

Why not bump the volts to 1.425 for 3ghz?

htt limit on my mobo

htt limit at 329?

i've had my a8n32-sli gone up to 400+ htt no issues...have you bumped up htt overvolt?

yes htt overvoltage has been turned on.
it boots at 350 fsb but everything starts getting too unstable for me past 330+

what is IHS? what is it stand for? i have the same CPU, and it runs hot too, i'm using Zalman 9500 heatsink and it idles at 39-40 degrees, how do you pop the IHS? I wanna do this if it can decrease my CPU temp.

I was wondering if someone can give me some advice, I have and opton 165 ccb1e 0609 fpmw. Now on most of the forums I read that they are hitting 2.6+ on stock and I know that every chip is different but what kind of MHz am I suppose to expect. I have the motherboard in my sig and with that processor I was able to get the fsb to 300 or more if I lowered the multiplier down to 8 with this new one I cant do more that 220. What could be the problem aside from a bad chip?
