Catalyst v4.7 Drivers = HIGH TEMPS!

the craziest thing just happened. I upgraded from catalyst 4.6 to 4.7 on a sapphire x800pro. it's overclocked stable at 503/515 and as soon as I tried running a game on the 4.7 drivers, I started seeing various sorts of artifacts in games along with mad corruption in 3d and 2d apps. when on the 4.6 drivers, my temps never reached beyond 55 but on the 4.7s, they were up to 73 (atitool says so, 63 degrees says the overdrive tab)!!

I reinstalled the 4.6 drivers and thankfully, everything is back to normal but man, I'm waiting 4.7 out.

thats beacuse the 4.7's fix some of ati's cheating. Your card was actually doing its job with the 4.7's and that is why the temperature was so high. If you like the cheating drivers better, be my guest.

Please enlighten me on this subject. When was ati cheating? If it is with the trilinear filtering, please show me where there is a noticeable reduction in iq, because I have had my monitor (x800pro) side by side w/ a 9800pro and a 6800ultra and the only differences we could tell would be between both ati cards and the 6800. Also, how did they release a driver that maintains / improves performance of their "cheating" drivers? You really seem to be WAY more "in the know" about this sort of thing than me, your blatant rudeness and ignorance are proof of that, so please enlighten me.

mmm... attitude. does wonders for my respect for people. I'm with the other guy. if you could gimme some links to back this up, that'd be just great. thanks!

Well its BS that higher temps have anything to do with cheats, so that is pretty off topic IMO.

I am gonna PM those who asked for "evidence" to filtering quality stuff instead of posting here to prevent this from spiraling off topic.

well, if they render less with cheats, the card wouldnt get as hot.
but if you are getting such high temps and artifacting, i say get better case cooling or RMA.

i would also just LOVE to see these links and proof....and why PM it? you stated something in public, now prove it in public. the most shady things happen behind closed doors.

JKA was just talking out his ass as usual.

And where's the proof people? Post some links please cause I wanna see this 'cheating'.

Strange, my temps are still the same. Maybe just a sensor problem?

I dunno man but it was the strangest thing. I dropped back to 4.6 and I was completely fine. I have my stability back and my temps, so I really don't know what to think. I'll have to wait till 4.8 to really figure anything out...

besides. my case cooling is fine, it's just really puzzling because why would a driver release up my temps so horribly?

My X800 runs the same temps at idle and load under 4.6 and 4.7. Seems like BS to me.

why would I BS that? I came here asking if anyone else had the same problem. I'll post pics if ya want.

Maybe your temps were higher, but I don't see how drivers can cause that. I heard of the same thing with the 9700/9800 a while back, but I didn't experience that either. Since so FEW cards had that problem I would assume it's an air flow/failed fan issue versus a driver prob.

You can search trendC posts and find his links, to IQ issues with 4.7's I tried duplicating it but I couldnt notice any difference. Though in the links posted there was a very minute change in the ground texture. I have heard of temp issues with 4.7's but havent read about them since I didn't have an x800....until today! So once I flash my shiny new VIVO card I will see if I have the same issues

I have an OC'ed x800XT-PE (552/571)and my temperatures haven't gone up a bit since I loaded up the 4.7 drivers. No idea why people are having problems.

I noticed this too, except I don't think its a correct reading. My GPU temp was at 46C then jumped to 70C. When it refreshed it was down to 46C. I don't think its a valid reading. Probably something wrong with radprobe software in 4.7 cats....
