I like how Catalyst lets you set up multiple profiles. They even have an option to let you automatically launch a program when you activate a profile. I could for instance tweak my settings ideally for Crysis and save it as a profile. Then when I choose my Crysis profile, catalyst will automatically launch Crysis. What I need though is a way for a profile to be automatically loaded when I run a specefic program. For ex if I ran crysis, it would automatically start my Crysis profile. I need to do this for PowerDVD. That way whenever I launch PowerDVD, my refresh rate will change to 24hz. Now I know I could set up a PowerDVD profile at 24hz and then save it as a shortcut and launch that whenever I want to play movies, but for my current setup this isn't plausible. I'm using mediaportal as a frontend and that limits the way I can configure this.

Is it possible for me to assign Catalyst profiles to certain apps, and have the profiles loaded automatically when the program runs?

i'm thinking no just hotkeys for profiles which means you still would have to walk up and do it on a keyboard when you play a movie
 
I believe you may be able to set something like this up with RivaTuner, but I'm not exactly sure, as I haven't done it myself. Maybe try googling for some tutorials and see if it can do what you need.
