Hey all

I have decided to go with a 1900xtx or a 1950xtx to replace my 7800gt.

My question is this, I understand that the 1950xtx is basically a 1900xtx with faster ram, but the benchmarks i have seen place the two cards extremely close to each other, will new rounds of drivers give the 1950xtx a decided fps improvement over the 1900xtx?

Thank you!

New drivers could very well help if they start tweaking that memory controller. They've got a lot more memory bandwidth and if they do a better job taking advantage of that there will definately be a boost but it's yet to be seen how much that can gain.

The only places you'll see a difference in speed is anywhere that's limited by memory bandwidth currently. So higher res, AA/AF should be faster with the 1950.

As for the core/memory they're almost identical with the exception of the couple hundred MHz difference on the memory clock yielding 20GB/s of additional memory bandwidth if I remember correctly. And the core is slightly modified but almost identical in how it will run.

i would take a moment to read [H]'s thoughts regarding this card, they seemed to be overly pleased with it.

I did.... I wanted the forums response as well

well to answer your question, the drivers are completely up to ATI, its impossible to know if they are going to be able to tweak them for single game performance anymore (which they keep showing they can). The expected performance increase will come from both cards, GDDR3 and GDDR4 variants if there is any to be gained from the drivers

No single card in the X1K series is excempt from this.
