Catalyst Control Center (CCC) usefulness

i just installed the drivers for a HD4890 from the ATI website, and now i'm deciding if i should also use the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) or not. does the CCC come equipped with the tools for huge performance gains or will it just be more bloatware? to my understanding, i'll also need to install the .NET to even run CCC, which will even add on more to the bloatware and resource usage. is it worth it or are the "driver only" package enough?
 
It has varying degrees of use depending on the person

Things I use:
Multi-monitor management
Overclock profiles (ATI Overdrive tool)
Effects Management (can force AA/AF if desired and control the catalyst AI level which boosts performance in some games)

Other things it does:
Color management (For calibrating your monitor via the OS)
Video management (Same deal, but with video contrast etc.)
 
Well, unless you are still running XP (and if you are you should go upgrade), then you already have .NET installed. Hell, even if you are on XP chances are you already have .NET installed. I always install CCC - seems rather pointless to have the drivers but not be able to manage them.
 
What type of ancient machine are you running if CCC and .NET are going to be considered "bloatware"? On a fresh install of 7 x64, installing the CCC driver suite takes no time at all and you never know its there until you want to use it... whats the harm?

well a 30gb SSD after win7 64bit is severely limited on space, but since i won't be saving profiles, calibrating colors, or need to manage multiple monitors, i'm questioning the usefulness of CCC. does it need to load every time if i want the settings to hold in games? or can i just turn it on once to configure stuff and disable it from booting after that?
 
I think your grasping at straws...

I really don't understand your question about it needing to load? I have about 15 startup items on my machine with my SSD and you don't notice ANY of them starting because of the speed of the SSD. My opinion, be it harsh, is to install it and forget about it. This isn't even worth creating a thread over...

You have a 30gb SSD. You're hesitant to install a 50mb driver control panel.

Just don't install it if you think you don't need it. Down the line when you realize you do you can just install it then. Disabling CCC from booting isn't going to do anything other than prevent you from getting the full benefit of CCC. Its not going to hog resources, its not going to slow down your machine, etc...

You have an SSD and you're worried about shaving milliseconds off of your boot time? Find something more useful to do. Shit, just go play some games.

There was a point long, long ago during the early days of CCC (circa 2004-2005) that it could have been considered bloatware. Things didn't quite work right, and the settings preview page (especially the one with the sports car) were an absolute fucking joke, and the whole thing took forever to load.

However, I wouldn't consider any release from 2006 onwards to be bloatware. I'm not much of a fan of the UI change in the past year, but overall the core features and capabilities have been decent for the past 4 years. I would call it a necessity at this point.
 
if you can use msi afterburner but i know my 4890 wouldnt let me change the voltage.
