I can't get it to start. I formatted my comptuer (for reasons not related to my video card), and had to reinstall my drivers (and the control center, which worked fine before). Now, there are 2 instances of CLI.exe running in the background, and when I attempt to start the control panel a third instance starts, and then dies a few seconds later with no messages or anything.

I know it needs .Net framework, which I downloaded, installed, and then patched with the service pack. I've tried "Restart Runtime," and clicking "Wizard" in the start menu group generates a dialouge box that says CATALYST ControlCenter Destop Setup Wizard failed. The dialouge is fully themed like the rest of the now-defunct control panel. I've uninstalled the drivers, framework, and then reinstalled them (framework first), and nothing changes. I'm at a loss for what could cause this sort of problem on a fresh install. System specs are in the signiture.

As an interesting sidenote, if I uninstall the video drivers, AVG Antivirus dies on startup saying it's missing a DLL. As soon as I reinstall the video driver, AVG is fine.
 
First uninstall everything and use the ATICimUn.exe. Also after the reboot delete the ATI Technologies folder. After that install the drivers and the old control panel (reboot). Then configure your monitor etc. After that reboot. Install the CCC and reboot. It should load up. I had this problem before :) I assume you're Windows XP SP2 install is everything up to date :)

Would this be the package listed under the High Speed setions that contains the components:

Display Driver,
Control Panel,
WDM Capture driver

or do I need to use the low speed section to specifically download just the driver and control panel?

EDIT: I'm looking at the driver section of ati's website.
 
You download High speed cable DSL (Display Driver,Control Panel,WDM Capture driver) After you install the drivers and updated your monitor etc. Then you go to the low speed dial up and download the standalone Catalyst Control Center. Install CCC and enjoy :)I am using the 4.12 beta by the way :)
 
Alright, I did all that, and it still doesn't load up. After some reading, I understand the the two instances of CLI.exe that I see are actually 1) the runtime, and 2) the taskbar icon. So, the control panel does load (sort of), I just can't start an instance that will give an interface. Wierd, huh?

I'm having trouble finding anyone with a similar problem on Google, though I do find lots of complaints/bugs. Maybe I'm just better off with the old control panel until the fix the problems. Is it good for anything, performance-wise?

The Control Center was a lot of hooplah for not that much. For me, it took a long time to open from the desktop, and was really just annoying in that you really didn't have as much control with it as you did with the old Control Panel.

So, I got rid of the CC and just installed the old Control Panel again...
 
Well, then I guess I'll just ignore it for now then. However, I did open up my MMC and thinking that maybe there was something in the Event Log about it, and turns out that the ATI control panel makes it's own log entirely, and it was pretty much filled up. So I cleared it and tried again. Of course, it didn't work (didn't expect it to), but it did make 20 or so errors! Screenshots below if you're curious.

That's messed up. I would probably check for a BIOS update for the motherboard or try to manually reset the CMOS again and redo the BIOS settings again. By anychance did you do a slipstream Windows XP SP2 install? I heard SP2 really breaks alot of things from updating from pre SP1 or so. But I didn't have any issues from SP1 to SP2 upgrade. You shouldn't be having these issues with your up to date motherboard and hardware.
 
It sounds like you are having the same problems I had. When you install the drivers your going to use select custom install and only install the drivers. Excluding control panel. Then install Catalyst Control Center. CCC wouldn't load for me if I had both installed. Hope this helps.
 
It worked for me when I first installed it, but then after I restarted an error would come up saying I either didnt have an ATi card installed, or the drivers werent installed properly.. So I just unistalled the CCC and reinstalled the old school control panel.. Does just as much, and doesnt break. lol
 
I did slipstream my own XP SP2 disk, no worries there. My BIOS is the most current version. I really don't think it comes down to a hardware problem becuase I had CCC working fine before I formatted...it just doesn't work with my new install. Ironically enough, my last install wasn't slipstreamed, come to think of it. Maybe that's the issue, though it would really surprise me. I'm not about to format again just to find out - I'm only halfway through with Half-Life 2! Maybe later.
 
Heh, actually, I was playing...sorry. I tried it - same thing as always. That's OK, I've got HL2 running pretty well now anyways, so it's a moot point for now. Thanks, everyone!
