Catalyst 8.3 March 5th

3dmark06 down from 19,700 too 16,200.. went back to 8,2 mark went back up too 19,700 not sure what the conflict is. but ill be running 8.2 for now

So has anyone with a PCIe HD3850 used 8.3? Any better/worse than 8.2?
Installing all the parts into my rig tomorrow afternoon and am unsure which package to install.

Just installed 8.3 on Vista 64 and my FPS in COD4 went from 125 to 45ish. WTF. I'm going to downgrade to 8.2 for now, anyone else seeing this?

Been there Done that..Back on Cat 8.2 with the Beta Display driver 845.xxx0123..gets me best performance on XP pro64bit.. 8.3 really slows the CPU down..it even made my card stutter in crysis and the fan set too low a few times causing shut down!..Then it had booting/restart problems when trying to Install/UNINSTALL...Even when using Dcleaner and also removed the old 2005 C++redistributal...Once 8.2 or lower installed i was back to normal.

It was by far the worst Driver UP/down grade ive had....Thelly get right one day...

I got the 8.3's installed yesterday and I'm not impressed, Crysis and CoD4 are not as smooth with them and TV-out is still broke with these drivers.

EDIT:
TV-out seems working with the Cat 8.3.

Hrm. With 3870X2 + 3870, 3dmark06 is at about 19,000 with 5% oc on GPUs.

The first real game installed, Crysis, runs well (guessing 30fps, no way to tell yet) at 1600x1200 with all settings on high in dx9 mode.
So far, so good.

Yea, I actually noticed that if you have the info cvar enabled in Crysis, that shows memory usage, fps, etc., it's actually showing higher FPS than fraps. think it's artificially jacking the fps up?

FPS generally in the 30-40 range, but it appears I am seeing the strange bug that causes GPU clock to throttle and GPU usage to drop. I wonder which bug is causing which effect.
During the course of the game, GPU speed fluctuates between 875mhz and 280mhz, and GPU activity fluctuates between 90% and 0%, and the fluctuations coorespond perfectly.

Sounds like its "thinking" of going from 3d to 2d performance. I've seen this in a few games and have no idea what is "2D only" in Crysis.

I have a ticket in with ATI as well. Looks like you are getting the Powerplay bug too. it fluctuates between full 3d and low-power 3d modes in the middle of the game, causing hitching, etc. mine fluctuates from 855/955 down to 300/900.

Happens in a lot of games.

Hmmm...I installed 8.3 and my FPS in COD4 ranges between 90-125 with none of the previous dips to 45 I was seeing on 8.2

So far so good on my rig...

It works great for me now. But I max out in FRAPS at 91 fps and never drops.

Is there a way to disable powerplay? Particularly in Rivatuner, since then I could keep it open to monitor clock speeds, GPU load, etc.

I know ATITool provides the option to disable powerplay altogether when OCing.

No one seems to have figured it out yet it seems. I can't find anything online that can disable it on my dual X2's.

Well, besides a BIOS flash that changes low and high clock settings.

Thought about that. But.....
you try it first and let me know how it goes!

I submitted a ticket.

Na...I'm not even going to attempt a BIOS flash. I have a ticket submitted as well. infact, they just got back to me and told me to run a prog that generates a text file for them of all my system specs, etc. I gotta head home in about a half hour and send it to them.

I'd much rather get a legitimate fix than try and do it myself. besides the fact that I tried the ATIWinflash program and it just sits and eats up 100% cpu on all cores and never does anything.

Have you had any problems using this on Vista x64? I ask becasue it seems to crash mine during video playback.

Got a question about new ATI 8.3 install since the new CCC version is it alright to install the new 8.3 software without removing the previous 8.2 CCC software and has anyone did the upgrade this way without any issues. I was going to upgrade and when I went to remove the 8.2 drivers all i have in the add remove program's is repair or change.

That doesn't sound right.
I have not had good luck lately with reinstalling drivers that way. I almost always clean the old ones as best I can.

Works fine for me so far. installed first day out. Using Vista 64 business with Intel 8400, GB X38-DS4, HD 3870.
