Well, I updated to the 8.3s today and Crysis is running ~55% faster in the GPU benchmark and in-game it is much smoother(and using both GPUs now!)

However, TF2 crashes when I try to join a server and when I create a local game, the lighting is all haywire. Any TF2 players also getting this w/their 38xx card?

Yeah, I have the 1.2 patch installed. Crysis is way better, but I need my TF2 to work.. Arg. I'm reinstalling TF2 now..

*edit* The game's Directx detection is what's screwing up. HDR lighting options are missing from the advanced video options, forcing the game to run in DX8 eliminates the problem.. -dxlevel 90 or 95 don't work.

I guess I'll try re-installing the 8.3s..

I had to go back to 8.2driver....Ive since reformated 64bitXP...So ill try again...Crysis was smooth for 8.2 but is trouble some for me now with 8.3...

Also try the Febuary DirectXupdate? Sometimes when i insall new game if it dosnt run good ill reupdate the DirectX and all will be better...

8.3 is just wierd , works for some just as good as 8.2 but then is bad for others:(

Yes, there is a March update for DX available actually, and I have that. The 2nd time I reinstalled the 8.3s I used Driver Cleaner. Made no difference.

I opened a ticket w/Valve and will submit feedback for the drivers too. I want to see if anyone else is having similar problems with TF2 so I can verify it isn't just my system.

I just tested my TF2 and I don't have any of the issues that you're having. I'm currently running Vista Ultimate x64 and the Catalyst 8.3's.

Hmm. Very odd then. What's goin on.. =[

Crysis runs much better, haven't tried 3dm06, ut3 or bioshock yet. Older Source games run fine.. I've cleared out registry settings and re-installed TF2..

I actually was able to fix it, but I'm still not sure how. Here's what happened.. I saw some replies from various folks with the same hardware+OS saying they had no problems, so I focused on my system. On a whim, I disabled some startup items that had snuck back in after various software installs(Itunes upgrade, Java JRE update, Nero install, Adobe Acrobat).

So, after rebooting without the Itunes Helper, Acrobat Speed launcher, java update scheduler thing, and nero backitup, the problem immediately went away. I had the game in dx80 mode so I figured why not try now with these startup items disabled.. I switch it to -95 and launch the game and immediately I could tell the problem was gone..

SO, something that persisted on the system over the 8.3 driver install was screwing up tf2/ep2's dx detection OR it was screwing with the 8.3 install itself. Very weird, very frustrating..! Glad it's workin now.. I just wish I had a more concrete explanation.
