FINALLY! of course they ahd to do this AFTER i messed around with the crappy beta drivers last night.


installing now!
 
Well, none of my problems were fixed. UT3 still crashes when loading levels, TF2 still flickers on death, and Crysis still gets slowdown, although overall Crysis is running much better now. Even enough to go from 1280x960 to 1680x1050...
 
Crysis from 30-35FPS at 1920x1200 all high to 40-45FPS WOW! I would like them to fix that bug in TF2 though, even though you only see it for a second or 2 it is still very annoying, but I suppose I can live with it for this kind of performance!

Hah same here, picked up a 3870x2 yesturday, tried some of the betas out there checking things late into the night and then this out when I wake up heh.
 
lets hope the 3850PRO's AGP will be out soon. I think the companies were waiting on these drivers to come out.
 
they still didn't fix the 2900XT DX 10 crossfire problem with Crysis. all i get is stuttering picture and shaking picture. videos still don't play right, COD4 still has the shaking screen at times. haven't even gotten to age of empires III yet.

yeah seriously i wasted like an hour and a half trying to use that newer beta they had 8.451.2 (not .4). i was so ticked cause i coulda been playing fear that whole time.
 
The performance gains in Crysis are pretty considerable. I'll give AMD that...
 
yeah these didn't fix any of my problems. I still get the shaking screen, Crysis DX 10 still won't display at all (DX 9 works great, haven't tried it to see the performance gains yet).


although my system is a little mroe stable. the drivers are working somewhat i guess.
 
some of you guys are actually getting good frames in crysis(xp)? my x2 still drags compared to my gtx at 1680x1050. fear(xp) single player still stutters when moving while zoomed in, and you still can't force aa in gow(xp) like you can with the 169.28 nvidia drivers.

have you seen the gains yourself? and how much of an improvement? sorry fo the questions but my visiontek 3870 is on it's way from ncix:D
 
After playing some more last night still getting some stuttering in Crysis, strange because they obviously worked on Crysis with these drivers due to the FPS increase yet the stuttering is still there in some parts...makes me wonder if they are ever going to be able to fix the stuttering?
 
Im kinda tired of getting all excited about ati and its drivers. I am let down every time. They are not spending enough time on drivers prolly the last thing on their minds right now.

This is new behavior how, guys? These two companies have *always* optimized for the newest fancy eye candy laden high profile titles first. Quake, Doom, Crysis, etc...I don't see what all the bitching is about. People buy cards because they look at websites to see how well they perform with the latest and greatest.

Crysis has been out all of two months. It was a rushed project that simply didn't have the hardware/software support it really needed upon release. On the other side of the spectrum: CoD4. That is a quality title that's run pretty smoothly from the get go and it looks fantastic. It was released when it was ready. Drivers work for it but of course these teams had to optimize for it as with any game, they just had the time to do so and the result was a polished product.

I think Crytek (or maybe it was just EA pushing them out the door for a quick paycheck) really dropped the ball on Crysis. If the drivers weren't up to snuff at the time of release why the hell did they release it when they did? Take some more time to optimize and work with the IHVs...simple as that. Now AMD and NVidia have had to play catch up and make this game a top priority for their driver team just so they can look respectable. Even NVidia has always had issues with this game and they've had much more interaction with the developers prior to release (or at least I think that's how their way it's meant to be played garbage works).

You can blame AMD/NVidia all you want for not having drivers that fix issues but when they have to go back in and duct tape a bunch of fixes together to jerry-rig a game to work better...well it just might not be their fault. I see all the older games getting fixed after the Crysis whoring dims a bit.

Morale of the story: Benchmarks sell cards.

The Crysis 1.1 patch fixed that...
 
All you guys talking about issues with your games is making me nervous... I have always been an NVidia fan and descided to try out these new 3870 X2's and I see in here abotu stuttering and you name it and I never had issues with any of my NVidias... hmmmmm now what to do.
 
Hmm cant tell ya what to do but I wanna get the 3870x2. I flip flop between the two companies. I got the 3870 mostly because I wanted to play CoD4 at its best. The 3870 can do that. But for some reason I still feel let down. The card if you compare it spec for spec should beat its 8800gt counter part but for some reason it cant pull it off.

One thing I have noticed with nvidia cards is that goin from different rez's you do lose a lot of performance. There will be like a 10 fps difference with nvidia where as ati usually like 5 or less.

I dont know if I have expressed what I meant right but you get the jist.
 
Yea I get what your saying... I just hate to think that after dumping almost a grand for 2 cards that my games could be hopping and skipping more then a little girl jumping rope. I thought that since I was having issues with the NVidia chipset I would go with a CrossFire mobo and give theses a shot... kinda iffy now what to do...
 
Well I have the DFI LP UT p35 board im sure its crossfire. I have not had a problem with the board. Im hoping someone like omega releases some suitable drivers. I actually really dont get any stuttering that I have noticed. Also I dont play crysis much.
 
What do you know?!?! Yesterday, my 3870x2 came in and I get the brand new drivers with it! :D Such a good day...
 
In my experience, the only problem I have so far is Crysis stuttering. every other game runs flawless on the HD3870x2. I have 2 cards and am waiting for that crossfire X driver so I can run them both. IMO the problem is with Crysis, not the card. Like i said, everything else runs amazing.

if the nvidias work relatively well with crysis, how is the problem not with ati. there are a lot of games that carry the nvidia stamp, that the x2 plays well.
 
Unless I'm reformatting, I tend not to update drivers. Why? Cause it always seems like they introduce new problems. Games will be stable and run quickly, but I always notice new quirks that I didn't notice before.

For instance, I uninstalled my old drivers, ran the Driver Cleaning software, and installed the drivers for my video card, and the lighting became all messed up in WoW. I was running around Scarlet Monastery (Graveyard), and the torture chamber was nearly pitch black. Even Ironforge was a total pain to get around cause the place was nearly pitch black. Blacks were too black, and whites were too white. But I was getting 110fps! The only way I could fix it was to reformat again.

So ya, I don't like updating drivers. If my games work and run well, I leave it be.

No I have not tried them, but I have 2 on my "Buy List" for my build... just get nervous when people start talking about problems I know I never experienced with my Ultras.

--> Can you or cant you CrossFire 2 of these X2's? I was told that CrossFireX was only relevant to the non-X2 3870's and that since they were dual GPU I wouldnt be able to... can you clairfy this for me?
 
crossfire x driver intended to allow 4 gpu's to communicate with each other. not available to consumers yet. i, too have not experienced the same problems with either my gtx's or ultra's.

The 3870X2 do have the Crossfire bridges, however the drivers to support 4 GPUs is not yet available. Yes, the drivers do usually show the 3780X2 as one card, but it still needs to support the 4 GPUs behind the scenes.

Reformatting? You mean as in reformatting a hard disk? Don't you think that's a bit extreme just for a video driver? I don't even do that for an OS reinstall. It's a rare event when I need to reformat a drive.
 
I'll give AMD 1 month to fix all the problems they have in Crossfire. If they can't get their shit together I'm selling these cards and buying the 9800GX2.
 
These KB article hotfixes seem to have fixed my stuttering problems... so far...
They are NOT on the Windows Update site and these are VISTA ONLY.

Also, you can turn off ATI Powerplay by going into Control Panel -> Power Options (sp?) -> Advanced Options
I am not on my Vista computer right now but that is where I think it is. It is buried in there some place. :)

Edit: Powerplay options are there but unavailable.
