Catalyst 5.6 Released

C3....Catalyst Control Center

You have to have Dot Net 1.1 for it to work. When you install it. C3 should work great. If you did not download and install Dot Net 2.0 Beta then you don't have it. (You can check add remove programs to see if it is there.) ;)
 
got it working.. but when i play CS:S or any games, there's a tearing on everywall when i move.. or when i move suddenly.. ill try if vsync on will fix that..
 
Worst driver I've tried yet. Within a minute of firing up any game, my computer would reboot itself. Went back to 4.12 and problem solved. :mad:
 
yup, i went back to 5.4 and it looks like it's better now.. but i still see some tearing on the walls or roads.. idk if that's a lag or something.. :(
 
I went from 6323 (5.3s) to 6566 (5.6s) haven't tried any games yet, but these seem to be faster!
 
I didn't see any huge gains. Stable as usual. Maybe a few more 3DM05 points. Cat Control Center runs great now. No more lag when launching and the tool bar interface works better. Worth the 5 minutes it takes to switch over.

This link contains the Cat Uninstaller. Works great. Add/Remove the CCC panel, then the video drivers. Delete driver file in ATI folder. Run Cat Uninstaller. Reboot and install after cancelling the windows bs. Easy as cake.
 
I installed these 5.6's last night and don't notice much if any difference yet over the other Cats. I just set up a Raid 0 array and completely installed everything. Don't have any games setup as yet. I will checkout the games soon.
 
I'm either going crazy or the Cat 5.6s decrease HL2's loading times alot....I only have 512mb of ram so thats probably why I notice it...on the other hand, the stuttering issue is still there only less dramatic...instead of getting 0fps, I now get 20 :D :p

I got that CLI error too, I just used system restore to get rid of it. Did anyone get it to work after getting this error?
 
Just tried them out, installed easy, didn't notice any real big boost like I thought I would get, but I did get another 2 fps from doom3 now getting 56.7 at 1280x1024 with 2AA and 8AF, and ultra quality setting. I don't really play many of the games they optimized this set for though. Overall I'm please with this release, ATI's driver team are doing a pretty good job IMO.
 
5.6's cut HL2 loading times in half for me. Also, it's probably not a good test, but ATI Tool was rendering at 196fps with the 5.4's, and now is rendering at 220fps. Upgraded to the 5.5's a while back and they were horrible, thats why I went from 5.4 to 5.6. But these 5.6's get my two thumbs up!

Oh yeah, and Windows Media Player starts playing a video IMMEDIATELY after I click on it, instead of pausing for like 8 seconds. That makes me even happier.

I love the new Video options in the CCC now.
 
Maybe I'm the only one, but every time I change my resolution in the windows display properties dialog I'm told system settings have changed and that I need to reboot. This never happend with any previous iteration of Catalyst ....

Changing the resolution using CCC works fine.

I uninstalled the 5.5's and used DriverCleaner twice and it's still happening ...

Any ideas?
 
is it just me or are all of you experiencing painfully long boot times when you see the windows xp logo with the blue (for pro users and green for home users) bars? 5.6 added at least 2 minutes to my boot-time. when i switched back to 5.5 everything was normal.

I have been running the 5.6's since the day they were released and have none of these problems. It may be that the older drivers were not completely removed prior to the install of the 5.6's.
 
No probs for me either. Nice load times for the CatCC and I like the new video overlay features . Went from 72,100 to 75,876 in Am3 not much of a change in 3dM'05. Still may go back to the Omega's though.
 
5.5's to 5.6's, and for the first time ever I decided to try the CCC.

No problems at all with the install, no complaints yet as it relates to these drivers. Runs GTA:SA with no problems or crashes as of yet. Have not had a chance to bench these or try other games as of yet.
 
Well I decided to try the catalyst 5.6, with Catalyst Control Center ( before: catalyst 5.1 with control panel ).

Installation - no problems.

Significant boost to 3DMark05: 5515 to 5720

Thought I would stick with these drivers, BUT these drivers significantly prolong computer boot-up time.

As before, XP on boot-up arrives to the desktop rather quickly, but once at the desktop, hard-drive activity seems to go on forever before it stops.

Also tried catalyst 5.6 with control panel - only slight improvement in boot-up time.

As I have no patience, returned to catalyst 5.1 with control panel - everything back to normal.

I can't even use these drivers. Im stuck with 5.5.

the 5.6 cats give me problems with the resolution I play at. I use 1280x960 to keep a 4:3 aspect ratio but these drivers give me black bars and the top and bottom of my screan like when you watch a widescreen DVD except they are not as big, but I can't seem to fix it. The 5.5cats don't give me that problem.
 
Didnt really add much to my boot time. Mebbe 6-7 seconds I guess? I can't say i've noticed it much.

Just to follow up, after using the CCC since my last post, I guess I am pleasantly surprised with it....I mean it doesnt really seem do anything for me that makes my life easier, but it doesnt appear to be fucking anything up either. And thats ok with me. Then again I probably wouldnt bitch if the AA/AF and other misc settings were actually jumpers on the card :)

I sure would like to see built in overclocking/temp monitoring tho.
 
I get 1745 on a Venice 3000, A8N-E, X600 256mb Pro, Catalyst 5.6's and the latest nforce drivers.
 
I don't know about everyone but for me catalyst 5.5 seem to run better then 5.6... as those take to long...
 
Overall I'm happy about the 5.6's except for one thing...HEAT. I've been experiencing really bad heat issues leading to random restarts and mobo beeping all around. Went back to the 5.5's, dissapointed with the CCC speed and lack of options video wise in CCC but no heat problems. Hopefully the 5.7's will fix this heat problem :(
