Catalyst 5.13 Discussion

Anyone play Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones with these drivers? It seems to be very jerky for me. It's kind of weird.. it's like the game is in fast forward but it's still jerky.

Although more likely a driver problem (of some kind, not pointing directly at video as I know sound drivers can cause problems too) but it may be the game, but I haven't found anyone with your problem yet (except you)

anyone else having problems with Counter Strike:CS or Need for Speed:Most wanted?

for some odd reason with these new drivers i'm having the games start to run very sluggish and then crash back to the desktop for no reason.also, have a problem with choppy video playback with movies i've never had trouble with before.

i uninstalled the drivers likei've done before with no problem like this.

card is a 9500 Pro that i got for $150 bucks from tiger a few years back.

Ditch CCC and use ATI Tray Tools...downloaded from www.guru3d.com and the support forums are there too.

It has all the settings for the drivers and you can set up auto overclocking so you don't cook your card when just running 2d. It has profiles for your games also.
Go check it out, its the way to go.

CCC sucks, I hate waiting for it to load everytime I want to change some setting.

Here is a screenshot of it:

I had a problem installing new 5.13 drivers. After uninstalling 5.10, rebooting and trying to install 5.13 it stopped the install halfway thru with an error message saying to install standard VGA drivers. Windows had loaded a generic ATI driver that was causing the problem I guess.
I had to go into safe mode and enable VGA mode then the 5.13's loaded OK. Didn't know how else to load standard vga drivers. Never had this problem with updated drivers before.

Experiencing no problems with CS:S

http://rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33705231&page=91

Post there for any catalyst driver issues

fixed it.the problem with the stuttering was with my old soundcard{thinking of taking out the card and just using the Realtek Onboard Sound}.when i got the Cat 5.13,i upgraded the soundcards drivers also.

rollbacked the soundcard drivers and problem solved.

Any reason why y'all don't use the Omega Drivers instead? It has ATI Tray Tools built in. I thought everyone used the Omega Drivers. No?

Nope, I don't use Omega drivers. I see no point in it myself. I don't like my tweakers bundle in with my drivers. Back when he had RadLinker in there, it caused some issues with something else I was using. Back in the 3.xx or 4.xx days.

Interesting. I only use Omega Drivers because they're less cluttered than the Cats. Plus, the Omega Drivers work for my 9600 in my laptop where the Cats don't.

The best thing is the Omegas are free from the CCC thing. I did have an issue with Temporal AA with the Omegas so I just disable it.

Maybe you could use the CP (if people are so desperate) from the 5.11's with the 5.13's actual display driver
No. It won't install if you try that.

Regarding the tray tools they didn't work right for me. Gamma adjustments do nothing.

I can't speak for XP32 users but I know it failed on my system. I'm using X64 edition.

Basically the installer starts up but then quits. Just disappears. No error on the screen. I went into the event viewer and there was a system error showing up that indicated it had not loaded the control panel because it expected a different display driver version. The one it was packaged with.

This happened when I attempted to load 5.12 "legacy" CP on a 5.13 driver only install.

It's been too long since I've suffered from a driver problem but I've got one with the 5.13's. After testing CS:S for awhile I've noticed I recieve lighting problems in certain areas (little side tunnel at terrorist spawn on de_aztec as an a example). I can live with it but it's still annoying

maybe a dumb question... but how do you determine what version of .NET you are running?

I'm currently on 5.11's with CP... and I know when I accidentally dl'd a CCC version of a driver, it didn't work on my system... I nearly returned my video card before reverting back to the original install disc for my vid card (5.8's or something) which worked. I then realized it was most likely .NET, but I have no clue what version, if any, I have.

WinXP Pro (32b) with SP2 is my OS. Thanks in advance!

PS. I too hated the CCC. I love control panel as I know where everything is and what everything does and no load time. Sad to see it go *sniff*

well, everyone who has downloaded windows updates atleast semi-recently is running .net 1.1 with a .net 1.1 service pack. if you just recently downloaded updates, then you probably have .net 2.0 as well. go to your add/remove programs icon in the control panel, click it and look at all of your installed programs etc. .net should be in there somewhere, unless you have a spanking new windows xp that was like, just pressed from the production line....

.Net will only show as availible for D/L on windows update if you pick "custom" and not "express" BTW.

Yea I have problems with soundcards causing problems for me in games and with other programs with both my ATI and Nvidia cards it's hard to track down sometimes.

thanks guys for the replies! Just built this comp a couple of months ago and I'm not sure if I got all the updates yet.

I just downloaded the display driver from ATi's website. Then, I uninstalled the 5.12 DD and installed the 5.13 DD. Still works with my control panel fine. I have no objection to CCC, expect I am too lazy to install .NET. I am fine using CP because it's stand alone, no need for .NET. Otherwise, I would use CCC in a heartbeat.

I have a nvidia bfg 7800gt oc but if you dont like the load time of the ccc for ati just install more ram and get a faster harddrive :)
