I have an MSI RX9800 and I tried using the 4.9 betas to speed up Doom 3. I uninstalled the old drivers completely, rebooted, installed the betas, rebooted again, and got a blue screen when booting up. Reverting to having no driver let me get back into windows. I then tried manually installing the beta driver from the device manager in Windows XP SP1, and it immediately blue screened after loading the driver. Is anyone else having this problem?

Installing them worked great for me, but I didn't unistall the old drivers first. Maybe being lazy in this case is good. Curious to see if how other ppl's install went.

i tried uninstalling 4.7's then installing 4.9's
then i tried just installing over the 4.7's and both times the 4.9's were messed up

one install they worked and when i was playing doom3 i got BSOD
after the reboot it showed i had no drivers installed....

so im just sticking with 4.7 for now

i havet he same problems with the msi board too.

Somewhat of a small oversight, but I needed to have Norton disabled to install both the beta 4.8s and 4.9s....

Hrm...I was actually considering the MSI 9800 Pro as an upgrade.

Is the fan noisy at all? In comparison to other 9800's that u've seen or heard?

the 4.9's i got say hotfix in the title so i kinda figured that they would just install right over the current driver.... and i was right, so, try it again i guess.

i am having the same problem with the MSI card...

shame really :(

i got the same problem with my MSI Radeon 9800pro128mb. Booting up with the 4.9 betas gives me a blue screen of which i have to restart and restore to previous drivers. Someone needs to notify ATI about this issue before the final comes out

Couple of questions, I have a mobility radeon 9600 pro turbo. I just upgraded to 4.7 and used the mod tool from driver's heaven. I was contemplating using the 4.9 beta but i'm concerned that there is even more of a likely hood that i would encounter problems (being a mobility card) than others. So should I just wait for the official, rather than the beta? How long should it take before the official comes out? Has there been much of an improvement in doom 3 and far cry performance with the new drivers?

I got a 9800se (powercolor) in a box I built for a friend, and I put the 4.9 beta driver on it after completely removing all traces of the old driver. No problems reported to me so far. Playing D3 and Painkiller. OS= win2k sp4

I kept my 4.7 install, but I took the atioglxx.dll file out of the 4.9s and replaced my old one with it located in windows/system32.

I've played through a couple levels, and no errors to report as of yet; I'm also running the Humus mod.
