Catalyst 2950 mdi/mdix

It's not any help, but all of the HP Procurve's have auto mdix. I'm really torn. I like the Cisco products, but they are pricey.
 
Just a note....if you can avoid using auto mdi/mdix, avoid it. I've seen it really screw things up.
 
I've seen it completely break speed/duplex autonegotiation, or cause the wrong settings to be negotiated. On the same note, I've seen it cause problems when the speed/duplex is hard-coded on the port as well.

I've also seen it be the cause for a link flapping after it was running just fine for a long period of time.

Just run the correct cable to begin with. It shouldn't be used unless you have no choice.

i agree with this. i've seen similar issues in an enterprise network where the auto sensing caused the firewalls to completely screw up. don't remember exactly what it did, but it was dropping traffic and doing all sorts of weird things.

in summary, i've always found it best to simply use the correct cables and manually set the speed duplex. that way you know what it is.
 
I've seen the same issues on 3750-ME switches. Auto-anything is just not a good thing. Hardcode the speed and duplex, otherwise the things just count up CRCs, collisions, and eventually stop working properly.
