I received my three 2513 router and one Catalyst 2924-XL-EN switch the other day. I was spending some time with Cisco's Feature navigator:

http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/index.jsp

I was able to find what images offer enterprise features for my 2500 series router pretty easily. The problem is I can't seem to find what images give the enterprise feature set on my 2924 switch.

Are the catalyst images much like the router images, which can be used on just about the whole series (IE: C2500 images can be used on pretty much all 2500 series routers)? It looks like Cisco breaks up the switches into the individual models (CAT2950, etc).

I'm a bit new to this, so thanks for the help!

cisco moves in mysterious ways, especially with the cat's: they bought those guys instead of building them internally, which is why old catalyst switches run catOS instead of IOS. there might not even be such a thing as "enterprise features" for your switch; what is it exactly that you're trying to do?

as a side note, make sure you've got the flash and the ram to run the enterprise featureset images on your 2513's. they've pretty much got to be maxed out.

I will be getting more flash an DRAM for the 2500's once I get my console cables to test them out.

Basically I just want all the features on my 2900 switch. It is for present, CCNA, and future studies.

Since the Cat 2900 series does not include IP Routing I doubt there is any more than the standard IOS for the switch.

Enterprise is more of the advanced features like BGP for the major carriers or protocols such as DECnet and Banyan-Vines that certain large companies still have in place but the generel public no longer uses.

For a CCNA level I wouldn't worry about Enterprise. When you are working on your CCNP Remote Networks then you can get it for learning BGP.

I let my Cisco login lapse so I can't check for you. But maybe someone else can.

My 2924M-XL is running 12.0 Enterprise IOS. I believe it is an interim software release. I read somewhere that the enterprise IOS is only supported on the 8MB switches... Don't remember where I read that.

Hope this helps.

Would you be able to post the image name that you are using. I would like to try and figure out what Cisco uses to denote that it is an enterprise image.

Here is a copy and paste of the console when my switch boots up...

I think in order to run the Enterprise software you have to have the 8MB version and if my memory serves me correctly all of the C2900M series switches have 8MB.
