Catalyst 10.1 is out

I sure hope they get this eyefinity/crossfire stuff straightened out.

I DO realize I am not in the majority here, but I have 1 5970, and would own at least another 5850 or another 5970 if it was worth it- which it this point, it is NOT.

Ironically, because of the demands of the high pixel count, Eyefinity is where I NEED the extra horsepower. I 'll go out on a limb and say most people don't need crossfired 5970s to play on one display.

I am an Nvidia-converted to ATI, so I hope I don't regret going red!

only problem with fermi

needs heatsink size of jumbo jet with jet turbines fans to cool it
200$ more for 15% fps

Yup, they have until Fermi is out to get gray stripe crash fixed, otherwise I am jumping ship.

The GSOD appears to be 100% fixed for me by increasing the Vcore on my CPU (by several steps though, too...)

Bad thing is now it's BSOD city... But no more GSOD...

Computer was rock-solid stable with an Nvidia card in it, though...

Well, with these new drivers my system now can't last even a few hours without a crash at the desktop with the computer doing nothing...

I'm just going to throw my 4870x2 back into the machine and jump off this failboat now...

Been running 10.1 for a few days. Zero crashes. Was plagued with them when using 9.12

Why did you get a 5 series if you already had a 4870x2?

I had a 4870X2 and upgraded to cf 5870. I'll tell you why I did if you're interested.

Because it's still a free country(barely) and because I wanted too. :D

Also, because you're going from a dual-GPU solution to single-GPU...

Biggest obvious reason: DX11...

Besides, what's wrong with supporting AMD? (Not that I plan to support them again in the future, mind you...)

Wanting:

-3840x720 midrange Eyefinity resolution option in CCC plx, for 16:9 displays.
-Working vsync in Eyefinity resolutions with crossfire.

Since I continue to get BSODs but no longer get GSODs, I decided to put my CPU Vcore back where it was before I got the 5870 (back when my system was rock-solid stable...)

Vcore back where it started, now no BSODs or GSODs...

I might finally be stable again!

no problem for me so far beside those Crysis multi-GPU issue that they havent fix for years...

Installed 10.1 this morning and have played several hours of TF2 and ME2 without a hiccup. Didn't even bother with a clean install. This was with a 4870x2.

I have a question.. I installed Cat 10.1 drivers but in the Control in information it shows the driver at 9.12's  I uninstalled and ran driver sweeper and installed fresh 10.1 drivers and the signature still shows 9.12 has that happened to anyone?

This was covered on page 2 of this thread. As long as you show 8.69 installed, you are fine...

thanks for pointing me in the right direction so at least I know it was a mistake on someones end and no issues with the new drivers except that aero was mysteriously shut off and back to the classic which i guess was the drivers fault..a reboot fixed the issues

More issues than ever before! HD3200 now fails to resume from standby, and if I turn off the monitor, it WILL NOT regain HDMI sync without rebooting the entire PC.

Preorder isn't charged until release from most places. You can preorder now, play beta and then cancel if you want.

Sucks that I can't pre-order online from Canada. They got something against Canadians?

Anyways. I also got the issue with the monitors not going into stand by. Thinking about going back to 9.12.

Im jumping ship the second Fermi is released, i have a XFX BE 5970 which transfers the lifetime warrenty to 1 person, and it works better than most, i get the random grey screen, other than that its fine, and i have a perfect 5870 that im gonna sell. So i should get the card free and get some money back.

went from the 9.12 hotfix (because i was getting the huge cursor issue) to the 10.1's

and within five minutes the huge cursor issue is back!

back to the 9.12 hotfix for now i guess

I have the same motherboard as you. Have you updated your motherboard's bios? The large cursor issue was fixed in F5, I think.

Edited to add that I also have the same video card, and I also had the larger cursor issue before I updated my bios (this was a couple of months ago). I'm running the Catalyst 10.1 drivers without any problems, so I highly suggest you update your bios if you haven't yet.

Got the large cursor issue too. I updated my bios for my MSI motherboard thinking maybe it would help but it didn't. Find it unusual they would release a hotfix and then not include that in later drivers. For the first time I have no green in my computer, beginning to wonder if I should have sold my Geforce 260 so fast after getting my new 5770.

I installed the D3DOverride within RivaTuner...and it really does help a lot with the vsync issues I've been having.
Why can't ATI's driver console do the same thing? It literally has the same options in it...but they just don't seem to do anything.

I've found that vsync doesn't seem to work in Eyefinity crossfire but it works fine in single screen crossfire, or Eyefinity single GPU.

just want to say i use a 3200 with hdmi and have no issues with sleep at all with any of the driver releases in win7 32bit or 64bit the past few months

thank you very much for the info, sir!

i'm only running the F3 bios. i'll try a bios flash this evening when i get home from work.

interesting side note: when i updated to the 10.1 cat's, i refreshed my windows experience index and my graphics and gaming graphics ranks went from 6.0 to 7.4.

WOW SNAP!!!!!!
:eek::eek:

Good thing you updated

Yea my 4890 went from 6.0 to 7.6... Thats a huge jump... :D

Yes, I know I need an SSD... ;)

haha very nice

I got 7.7 on everything ...but only 5.9 on my Drive test, guess my RAID 0 isn't that fast :(

waiting for the price to drop out of SSDs :D

okay, so here's another interesting tidbit.

i was a little iffy on updating my bios. other than this huge cursor issue, i'm problem free. i'm running a xeon chip in my gigagbyte p55-ud4p, and i was afraid that a bios update could run me into a situation whereby the cpu suddenly doesn't want to play nice with the mobo.

so, just as a stab in the dark, i completely uninstalled my drivers (as i always do when updating or reverting) and installed the 9.12 hotfix, then rather than a fresh install of the 10.1's, i installed them over top of the 9.12 hotfix. the result? no huge cursor issue!

edit: the "gotta have the latest" bug bit me, so i said screw it and flashed to the F6 bios. went smooth as butter, and no issues so far. although, i wasn't having any issues with F3 either, so the flash wasn't exactly necessary. it'll be interesting to see if i still have any of the 2D quirks i've been experiencing with my 5770.

Ah, the infamous "Windows experience index." Unless you have a SSD, I think that no matter what you can't get any higher than 5.9. I've seen several RAID 0 setups that still only have that 5.9 score. Maybe Raptors can do it, but I haven't seen any normal drive setups that are any higher.
For the graphics score - I've seen mine shift from 6 to 7.8 several times depending on the driver. It just seems like an ATI bug.
