Getting some home networking done in my home. I have charter with 400mb/s downloads. I should only need around 12- 15 foot of ethernet cable. I currently have 2 100 foot ethernet cables and 1 50 foot. The two 100 foot cables are cat-7 and cat-8. The 50 foot is cat-5e. With these options which one is worth holding on to considering my 400mb/s cap? I'll end up crimping the one I should use and selling all 3.

EDIT: sorry this should be in the networking thread.

Cat5 is still fine for most everything.

I have my whole 10gige network wired on cat5e =P

Cat5e will carry 10gig up to 50ft no problem. Past that you need cat6, which will get you 300ft+

Pic of my home lab for attention.

50 feet is apparently 15 meters.
My 25 meter cat 5e link disagree cause it runs 10gbit without issues :)

That just strengthen the claim that cat 5e is underrated, but if I'd lay cables I'd get cat6-8 where price being the factor for choosing.
if cat 5e is in walls already I'd try before swapping.

Cat6 is enough for the home.
Cat6a if you want to run 4k porn to the wood shed
Cat7 if your wallet is just WAY too heavy.
