Well i cant wait to try em out.
Everyone enjoy the new CATS i skipped 6.8's because of the bugs.

Interesting about the Crossfire for 965 chipsets. I thought PCI-Express x4 wasnt enough for Crossfire since the second x16 slot on the 965 boards are electrically running at x4 speeds.
 
No problems with the 6.9s i didnt do any benchmarks though i just installed the 6.9s nothing really buggy at all but with ati drivers everytime i play a 3d rendering game my eyes get adjusted to the smoothness and performance so much that i cant really tell a difference. :cool:
 
I believe the 6.9s are fresher than the 6.8s the 6.8s as ive read some forums that they were buggy or ppl complained alot of things wrong with them, the 6.9s are perfectly done.

Not quite. Rendered data from the slave card is sent over the dongle, but the raw data that is fed to the card still passes over the PCI-e bus. Also, only the higher end Radeons use the dongle. The X1900GT and lower versions just pass data over the PCI-e...dongleless Crossfire.

^^ QFT... the dongle handles the actual rendered screen image data, feeding the finished frames from the slave card to the master for final assembly and output to the monitor... all other communication goes over the pci-e bus.. apparently ATI swamps the pci-e bus more with CF then Nvidia does with SLI... I guess this might indeed cause some issues with 965 chipset and that one 4x pci-e slot.. hrm.. the issues would only be performance related.. probably high resolution only.. but I am sure it will work fine. that's not the issue. Anyways, this is a good read with details info on both CF and SLI data communication.

I hope so, because the 6.8s gave me an error and I had to use factory drivers from Sapphire... boo.
 
I knew 6.8 had bugs!!!!!! I freakin' knew it!

Randomly playing CS when i changed settings for shadows and reflections, it would refuse to load games, but when i set it back to default everything was dandy.

hope these 6.9s are better and less buggy.

Oh, P.S: I never had issues with that until 6.8s.

No mention of the curious Oblivion HDR glitch. Assuming it is not fixed and disregarding.

It's a shame they don't care about it considering how huge a showcase title it is for ATi hardware. Well, whatever. This is precisely why I no longer buy their products.

Performance Improvement

As with most Catalyst® releases, performance has increased in various situations.
3DMark2006 overall performance improves 6.7-23.7% with anti-aliasing enabled due to improvements in HyperZ efficiency on the Radeon® X1300, X1600 and X1800 series of products. The largest gains can be seen on Crossfire™ configurations and/or 256MB card configurations at resolutions of 1280x1024 or greater
Doom3 performances improves up to 9.3% due to further OpenGL shader complier and transform engine optimizations on the entire Radeon® X1000 Series of products. The largest gains can be seen on Radeon® X1900 configurations at resolutions of 1600x1200 or higher

I can't believe ATI released the 6.9's without support for the X1950.........that is so lame!

I guess I'm stuck with the beta drivers that came with the card for another month.......
 
I recieved an X1950 XTX as an RA replacement for a dead X1900XT. The swine never gave me discs. As I was impatent and didn't want to sit on my hands another month waiting for discs, I edited various Cat 6.8 driver install files to recognise the card and install.

I'll do the same process to the cat 6.9's right now and see how they go.

I modified the cat 6.9's and they work a treat with my X1950XTX woohoo!!! :D

When I got the card I figure it must have been a left over engineering sample that was incompatable with standard drivers. I never realised Cat series drivers don't normally work with the X1950 series. As it takes MONTHS for these guys to process RA's I was determined to make it work come hell or high water.

Does anyone else out there with an X19509XTX want the ... um... fix? I'll be happy to start a thread and make it available.
 
Haha, I remember when they did that for us 19XT users. I'm still waiting for the DVD decoder setup to recognize my cd...
