CAT 6.12 beta

I DL 6.12 Beta ... My X-Fire runs more smoother,faster, and no crashes to any games i play than any other driver i tried so far from ATI. Cant wait for this one to come out full release.. :cool:

f.e.a.r 1.08 1184x864, pretty much everything on max save volumetric lights (minimum) and no AA or AF (trilinear).

Pretty decent. I also noticed it actually is a bit smoother.
1. In the benchmark, it used to hiccup a bit in the beginning as the view starts to turn, that's is severely reduced.
2. Moving through the volumetric light as the fan turns right in the beginning, the old drivers used to become choppy, this is also almost gone with the new drivers.
3. Near the end as the view goes over the railing after the water, the old driver used to hesitate on this one piece of the railing, this is also almost gone with the beta drivers.

However, does anyone understand why the time spent in the 25-40 fps range has increased a little bit?

That's what the chart seems to say, gameplay says otherwise. Another instance of improvement is in quake 4, specifically a particularly large room in Nexus Hubs where the game got fairly choppy, it's smoother with the new drivers.

I think that his minimum FPS got lower but all in all the average FPS got higher. Trade-off there.
 
fraps results for fear benchmark. Here you can see why the average fps is higher etc.

edit: yeah the axes aren't inverted, just labelled incorrectly. So my max fps was almost 140. Also, two trials were done back to back of each driver, with the average of the two data sets taken and those averages plotted.

2. How do you get fraps to do those nice little graphs? And to record FPS in gameplay?
 
Sorry, the labels are inverted, numbers are correct, so my max fps was approx 140.

Fraps is pretty easy to use. You just tick "FPS" in the second window and during gameplay, you start recording by pressing F11, and stop by pressing F11 again. FRAPS records the FPS and outputs to a .csv file (opens in excel). From there you can just use excel to plot the graph using the numbers.
 
What are the new AA features? I wanna try them out on my X1950's ^___^.

Still in beta, but they are much improved over 6.11 (even though the ones in 6.11 were already nice). They appear to be making great progress.

Get ATI tray tools, it's under advanced tweaks>new AA and AF methods. Or you can edit the driver's registry fields but I don't know the specifics. From the screenie's I've seen it's pretty awesome, and it comes without as much of a performance hit.
