Okay.

My kids have just destroyed another optical drive, and I've had it less than a year. So, I'm considering another case from my NZXT GAMA so nothing else gets jacked up.

Now, the problem is, unless I want to shell out hundreds of dollars for a server-class Lian Li or the like, that's not an option because I really don't want to spend that kind of money on a computer case. If I had to put a budget, say $150 for the case. I saw some NZXT ones with doors for about $100, but I would still need some way to keep it secured.

As long as it supports ATX I'm fine.

The Lian Li B10 which has a front lock has dropped to around $100/€70 here in Sweden. It's a great case at that price point.

Otherwise you have options like Antec Sonata and older Antecs like P182/P190/P193 etc if you can find them.

This seems like a good deal: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004H7QICG I'm not sure how it all works over in the US though ;)

+1 on the P183 that tejpis linked. Great case, used one myself. Has good cooling and room for everything. Here is another Antec that's cheaper and locks, but not so good cooling and pretty cramped inside:

Unless your kids are tearing up Blu-ray drives, it's almost cheaper to keep replacing the drives rather than buy a new case! :)

Locking cases sort of fell out of favor and Antec/Lian Li are a couple of companies that still offer them short of enterprise grade equipment. In fact, the most recent pro line case from Antec no longer has the locking feature. :-(

I've thought about the slot-loading drives, but the ones for the standard 5.25" drive just aren't there.

I see some of the Antec ones that don't have the key, but are otherwise attractive. I'm reading up on some of these cases. I could see if the magnetic door latchs are enough.

I have the older Antec P180, and it is a very nice case. The newer P183 is also very nice, and both have the keys to lock the door. Nice clean look, room for cable management, and very roomy.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I went a bit askew with my end result partly to keep as few cards/accounts involved for various reasons, I decided to spring for a new cheap ODD and the Fractal XL R2. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to my kids, so we'll see if that does the job.

Again, thanks.

Why not go for an external USB optical drive? Just put it away so it cannot be broken.

Have you considered adoption? Alternatively, I've seen a few cases where the front door had a key. I can't remember the names off the top of my head though. Some googling should be able to turn one up.

The Antec Sonata and old Antec SX tower (and Chenbro versions) were the only things in my price range. I wasn't willing to spend $400+ for a Lian Li server case, nor did I really like the internals of the Sonata or the P100's.

The Fractal Design XL R2 has a magnetic door. There's only one part that can be grabbed to open it, so that might be an easy way to keep them out of it and me from a stream of swearing. At worst There's a child-proof strap I can add without screwing the up the look.

Also, with the size of the XL R2, I could almost fit a child inside.

I have a Lian li rocketfish full tower with a locking front door I could sell you. It's only been used for a month and is in perfect condition.
