I know theres already bunch of these threads, but bear with me please.

My old watercooled full tower Supermicro 750A just isn't doing it for me anymore, as I'm starting to want something more portable (for friends houses and LAN parties) and the weight and bulk of this thing is just killing me.

This is going to be a complete new system, in a Mid Tower this time. Watercooling is not an option this time, I feel it just adds too much weight and complications for a computer on the move. But in short what I want is what everyone wants, something light and strong, with good cooling yet silent. I've got the money to splurge for quality, and am willing to do a few simple mods if necessary. Want to have it up and running before Thanksgiving.

Currently I have been eyeing the Lian Li Vxxx series (specificly the V1100 silent model) but being such a wild devation from normal case designs, I'm currious if its realy a revolution in design or a failed experemnt. (so if you have one, sound off!!!)

Heres whats going inside:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
BFG Geforce 7800GT OC (maybe 2 for SLI :D )
Corsair Twinx2048-3200c2
Seasonic S12-600 PSU
3 7200 RPM 3.5" HDs (from my current rig)
1 DVD Burner (also recycled from my old rig)

Lian Li overrated imo.

If you want light, strong, with good to excellent cooling with very little noise, try the antec p180, or even the antec super lanboy

Yea I've seen that thread, and the Antec P180 is on my consideration list. I'm hoping Fry's stocks both so I can compare them first hand.

Everything I've heard says that Li-Lis are excellent cases, but I have no personal experience with them. I would vote Coolermaster Praetorian.

I like case doors. I'm concidering the Cooler Master Praetorian and the Lian Li V SILENT PC-V1100

I really like the PC-V1100. However, I'm worried about all the cableing being long enough. I'll be using a SeaSonic 600 power supply.
I really like the freash air vent on the Praetorian. I'm gonna be cooling an 840 EE on air.

Well I went to Fry's earlier today and got a good look at the p180. I think its a realy nice case, but it seems a bit to big for my needs. (remember I want a mid-tower, not a full tower) Also I dont like the wavey front of the CM, just personal taste.

Been reading some good stuff in the forums at Silent PC Review about the V1100. Seems its not perfect out of the box, but still very close. Some mods like a shoelace HD suspension and reversing / dremeling out the grill on the rear fan (I've heard Lian Li as already changed the grill situation in an updated revsion of the V1000) realy improve the HD resonance humming noise and cooling of the case respectively.

I've also heard that you need to be carefull if you plan on having more than a few HD down in the lower bays as even thou the small floor vent is silent, its insuffenient if you have it fully loaded (some people dremmel out the front to give the fan a bigger intake to fix this)

Anyways, I think I've made up my mind. But I am starting to see that no case is perfect out of the box, which is why we mod.

Antec P180 "light"? The word light does not belong in the same sentence as P180. I own one and it is a heavy beast. It has way too many extra steel parts that do not add structural support, but that add weight. Quiet yes. Light no. Also, the P180 is not designed to be picked up or slid around much. It sits right on the ground and it takes an effort to get your fingers under all that heavyweight. No good handholds on the back and the front is all flimsy plastic.

The Li Li 1000 series is the most beautiful (and expensive) case that I've come into contact with. It really is in a different league than most other cases. I'd consider it pretty light, without any flimsy parts waiting to be knocked off (like the plastic door on the P180). That is another consideration for a case that will getting moved around a lot. It can be noisy though, so you need to isolate case fans, etc.

The Lian-Li V1200 case is dynamite. It is essentially the V-1000 case but about 3-4" deeper. Easy to work on and looks quite stylish. The PSU is in the bottom of the case so the center of gravity is much lower and it has wheels. Hook a string on the front and you can pull it to a LAN. ;)

Remember, that's the Coolermaster Wavemaster, not the Praetorian (Which is what was reccomended to you)
;)

I showed it to my mom, and she actually liked it. I may have to order it as a Christmas present :D
