Hey all,

Working up a SFF gaming build for a friend has kind of inspired me to take some of my old parts and put together a system for web browsing and writing papers on while at home so I'm not running my MBP for so many hours every day.

What I'm looking for is a Silver Aluminum Shoebox style case to compliment the look of my MBP and external drives. It has to be able to hold a standard ATX size PSU (Silverstone ST70F) as I have one sitting around and don't want to buy another one if at all possible.

The only two I've found are the Lian Li PC-V351A and Silverstone SG01-SQ. But both are over $100 and I was hoping to spend less.

So I'm looking for suggestions on other places to look for the cases that have them cheaper or have something like a SG02 in silver (Does it exist, can't find it anywhere I've looked) since it's a heck of a lot cheaper? And what the heck is the difference between the SG01 and 02 that makes the 02 so much cheaper anyways?

decent size case for a SSF

my friend loves his

I have seen them on ebay for 75-150
 
If its purely for office work, a Lian Li Q-7 might interest you. Not quite a shoebox but the silver version should match apple stuff fairly well.

That NZXT case it nice looking, but seems to be fairly large. But the cooling looks absolutely amazing... Something I could use for a SFF gaming build of my own at some later point when I have more time to game... Hmmm... I'm going to guess it fits a Standard ATX Psu no problem?

And the Q-7 is unfortunately a uATX case, but a nice looking case if I was going that small.
 
There is no way the NZXT can be called an SFF. It is the size of most mid-towers that hold ATX motherboards. It is 50% bigger than the next biggest SFF the Qmicra 2 and LANBOX (45 liters vs 30 liters). Am I wrong on that?

No you're spot-on, same can be said of the Antec Mini P-180. Are they nice cases? Sure. Are they SFF? Fuck no!!
 
I consider the Qmicra and Rogue SFF but no way a mini P180 is. They are all three, however, mATX cases. I guess its on your point of view. Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Smallest SFF case would probably be a Shuttle. Since its not for gaming and you are using some already existing leftover parts maybe a bare-bones shuttle case will work for you? Just a thought off the top of my head anyway.

The Rogue is bigger than the mini P180 (45 vs 40L)!! The PC Industry apparently thinks SFF is 8-19L and 20-34L is mini tower...you can thank AMDs press release yesterday for that fact :) SilverStone thinks 23L and under is SFF (the exact size of their SUGO cases haha).

I like low30s and under is a good measurement for SFF. In any event, it seems hard to call either one of those SFF when the major ATX cases sold are just as big.
 
See, this is where I and what the industry see things differently. They measure in Litres of space. I dont. I look at things dimensionally. Length, width, height. So for me I can accept a Rogue in the classification and the Qmicra (granted they are pushing my definition of SFF) but not a mini P180. But I guess I'm just weird like that. :D
 
Yeah that is a little weird :) You could turn the mini P180 on its side and it would be SFF? I dunno man!

besides, liters of space is just Length x Width x Height aka volume. But to each his own.

My SFFClub.com website will feature an article on this..it will actually be the first article for the new site. I've kinda given away what i'm going to say though! haha.
 
Yeah, after I found out how big the Rogue was I knocked that idea off the list. It's almost as big as a Lian Li Mid Tower... And I I'm with you guys that some of these cases that are mATX are sure not SFF.

I had thought about a Shuttle as well, but I decided on a SUGO SG01 as it has a nice balance between space & cost. So I'll be able to put a decent cooler in it and OC the cpu and shove one of my old graphics cards in and use it for some gaming over the summer and do a gaming build in it after I'm done with school again.

I think this case will last about as long as my TT Armor did... Had that thing for like 5 years now. But it also is HUGE and HEAVY... Used to carry that thing to lan parties too...

Without realizing it, I managed to get the F version.

Not too worried about the long graphics card support as I tend to get a solid midrange card due to not wanting to spend a small fortune for a graphics card that'll be outdated in 6mo to a year. And I'm not a FPS gamer so ~30fps is perfectly fine by me.
 
Mine is going to be boring ;) I'll post pics of the one I'm helping my buddy make, it's a gaming box and should be a bit more interesting to look at.

And mine won't be completely done for a while since I'm making perfect length cables for my ST70F so the insides aren't all cluttered up killing my limited airflow. Kinda makes me wish the ones with windows were the same price so I could show off my hard work, but I'm really the only one who would see it anyways :D
 
yeah airflow is important with a sff case.

Im gonna be strict on cable management when I get my rogue build done
 
Cable sleeve products will help, makes them look neater and easier to tie out of place.
You can pick them up prettymuch anywhere, wallmart, ect. They have fancy ones on newegg, but whatever floats your boat.
