After 3.5 years with my beastly (hah) MSI GT683r, it is time to upgrade. I am still on the fence on whether I want another gaming laptop or build a dedicated box.

With that said - if I built a dedicated box, I'd like to avoid having a full tower; perhaps an SFF or something along those lines, but I want to be able to fit a decent video card - an R9 or nVidia 970 series with another room for cooling, etc.

Another option would be a 4U chassis since I can slap that in my 18U rack which is right next to my desk.

So... any recommendations?

Thanks!

Mobo manufacturers are now making some very powerful Micro ATX and ITX boards. Corsair makes a couple nice ITX cases like the Obsidian 250D that uses a full size PSU, will accommodate a full length GPU, and a closed loop cooler (H100i fits nicely). If you want portability the Graphite 380T has a built in handle, fits full size PSU, 290mm graphics cards, and a 240mm radiator. The Carbide Air 240 is a great Micro ATX case! Build quality is great on all 3 of these cases.

All of these cases have a very interesting design... I do like the 250D and 240... Can either one do the H100i?

Yes, both can handle the H100i. I do know that you have to remove the CD Rom drive tray to install the H100i and after installation you can remount the tray!
