Alright guys, I'm making a thread to help plan out ideas for my next case. I'm going to be using the computer I'm running in a Thermaltake Xaser III, but I think it needs a change of habitat :) Yeah, the Xaser works, but it's not the greatest case out there. It's flashy with a bit of style, but it's not me. I'm looking to have a case that original, sleek, and stylish.

For the starting point of this project, I need to decide on a case I'm going to mod. Right now, I'm thinking of a Silverstone TJ03, although that's a really expensive case. Expensive... but lovely. One question I have about the case is whether the brushed aluminum would be easily paintable? One thing I'm considering is having a design professionally airbrushed onto my computer case. I'm guessing brushed aluminum would be difficult to paint, but hell, I don't really know :)

And now as far as the actual modifications. I want to do the running theme because I'm heavily into running (at the age of 17 I'm training for my first marathon :) ). I have no idea how I'm going to incorporate this into the case yet. The few ideas I have thought of so far are to have my time from my first marathon (Dec 4th, Memphis Marathon) incorporated somehow. I want this to be in there because my first marathon is obviously something I will have forever, and will always be proud of. No, I won't break a world record, but I'll finish :D Another idea I had was to somehow incorporate an inspirational running related quote into the case. Again, I don't have any solid ideas on how it would be done, but I still want to do it. The only things I've thought of for the time/quote are to either have them part of the airbrush design, or to cut them out of a piece of metal, cover that with plexi, and backlight the deal with LED's or a cold cathode. Or maybe I could do an etching deal. I recall one of the teachers at the local community college showing us a machine that cut into pieces of some clear material (like plexi maybe but pretty thick) based on our own custom designs. It just came to me that that could be used for some great etching.

So if anyone has any ideas for a running themed case, throw them out. Also, if you have any suggestions for a case that would better suit airbrushing, or whether airbrushing is a good idea at all, feel free to speak up. Sorry but there's not going to be anything to see on this case anytime soon, but I would really appreciate your help anyways.

hmm.......all I can think of is cutting shoe logos into the sides.......running isn't exactly something that goes hand and hand with computers......

I understand that, but I believe it can be done somehow. It's probably going to be less of the self-modding and more of a professional design. Anything can be art to someone :D

Stray away from running, dumb it down to speed. Go for a custom paint job with bright colours and racing stripes. Thats all I can think of right now because im hopped up on medication (I hate being sick). Running = Hard, Speed = Easier :) GL

They seem to be in limbo right now, but this site does some really excellent laser etched windows, including custom etched windows. :)

The really nice thing about their windows is that if you specify it while ordering, you can have them also etch some lettering on the window, at the same time they're doing the design. Might be a nice touch, having the title of your marathon, date, time you ran, etc, on the window, along with whatever design you have them do......really make it historic, right? :D

Oh yeah.....and make sure that if you're a runner, you take good care of your knees. That's usually (speaking from experience as an "old man" of 42) one of the first things to go! :(
