Hey all, I'm looking to paint my first case (see the worklog for what it looks like).

I keep seeing tuturials on how to paint a case and get a perfect mirror finish / or quickly getting a mirror finish yet I'm simply just looking to get a standard matt black look (with maybe a slight gloss). I've VERY concerned that the paint job would turn out poorly as I have never painted a case before, I work in computers and I've seen some shotty paint jobs walk through my door. So I guess ... is it easy for paint jobs to go bad when using cans of spray paint ? how hard is it to get an even application ? .... also what paints would you guys suggest for such a task..
 
buy a can of black spraypaint and test-spray on an old metal-plate or an old case.
use polishing to get it perfectly.
 
Well, actually it ain't that hard to accomplish ;) buy yourselve some polish :) that'll do allmost any trick on the "shine"
 
Powdercoat it. Sounds like what you want. Durable finish with matte black satin. Wont cost too much to have someone local do it for you. Doing it yourself for a whole case and all might be a little too much work, but if you plan on doing other parts, it's worth the investment...
 
There are some mat paints and clearcoats out there.
Or you can have it powder coated which is a bit more expensive, but will yield the best results.
 
I second the powdercoat. Most spray paints will not stick well enough for the long haul. You start removing moving your case around and its gonna start flaking pretty fast. Powder coat on the other hand gives you the option of a bunch of different colors, textures, and shine. I wouldn't recommend getting mirror black powder coat unless you clear coat it as well because cleaning leaves little scratches in it. I just had my mountain mods UFO case repainted with gold vein powder coat and its extremely durable and shows no finger prints when you touch it. Something to think about.
