First time Case Moddin..

List of what I plan to purchase in two weeks, am going to modify the case to hold Twin 80mm Fans on the side window and one 80mm Fan at the top between the PSU/CDR for ventilation.

Everything is geared towards UV Blue. Would like input on Molex Swapping of plugs (Easy or Dangerous?), Whether that PSU is worth the price or better off getting a standard PSU with a Wire Management Kit.

Appreciate everything.. This place got my fever running in wanting to mod, I've seen some crazy ideals and I would like to join in soon..

I've heard of people having problems with the X-connect PSU's. Don't take my word for it, but make sure you look around and read several "Professional" reviews before you buy anything.
 
Yeah, X-connect power supplies are made by the same company that makes Powmax, one of the absolute WORST power supplies made! :(

I've heard more than once a person (here, and on Anandtech) say that their X-connect wasn't good quality. If all you're looking for is the modular look, check out Antec. Much better quality, and they have models with modular plug features. :D
 
Not really looking for modular. Just something with Blue Fans and if I have to I'll buy the PSU Outfit kit to make everything into UV Blue. Just dont like the standard Black/Red/Yellow (forgot the other color) wire crap.. Ugly in my opinion!
 
I've removed my molex plugs before in the past and here's my experience:

If not done right, they'll never sit right again. You'll have plenty of bad connection, loose connections, and pins just falling out. I think the key is to make sure the fins on the side of each pin get bent back out so that the pins will not fall out.

Also, reversing the charge will fry just about any part in your computer. Be very careful...
 
I bought my X-connect before I knew that the bad rap they got, but mine has rock solid rails and is able to provide enough power for my stable (24hr prime all test, all super pi tests, and memtest86) 3.2@3.6 P4. I know it's not a hardcore OC but the PSU is still running fine.

Although knowing what I know now I wouldn't get one, I guess I got one of the good ones.

another thought, why in god's name would you even think of replaceing the molex's on an x-connect? or any other modular for that matter? they are made w/ good colored plugs.

I have friends w/ both the x-connect and the OCZ, both are happy with them

Bought mine a while ago. Plugged it in. No problem. Leave my PC on for the night and when I woke up, the PC was shut down. PSU died during the night. Sent an RMA to Ultra and shipped the PSU the next day. Never received it and that was, oh, 4 or 5 months ago. Called them twice, both times they said "Oh, it was sent back" and "We sent it out again" and I've yet to hear anything about it.

Will I buy another Ultra PSU? Maybe. Will I buy it from Ultra and not from a retailer ever again? What do you think.
 
The Ultra PSU's are a little shaky as mentioned. I bought one off the anandtech forums and it was DOA when I got it. Was it sold to me that way? No way to be sure. Anyway, Ultra did give me an RMA on it despite no proof of purchase, which I thought was pretty cool. The second one works fine in my rig that does draw quite a bit of power (3 disk scsi raid 0, 4 disk ide/sata raid 0, 3000+ Winnie @ 2.6, 9800 Pro @ 440/730, a slew of fans and some lighting). It's been stable and running einstein@home Boinc for about 4 months with no issues.

imho, they're hit or miss-the ones that work are fine, the ones that don't suck.
