I built and packaged a computer I built for my grandma and sent it FedEx. I insured the package and make extra sure that it would not be damaged (I.E. lots of fun little foam BB's) She gets it all messed up with a bend pannel and scrapes all along the side. It would not boot so she called and finally a FedEx guy came to pick it up and sad nothing was wrong, in doing so sent it back to me. I got it all jacked up, and when I opened it up found the heatsink off the CPU all the cards cracked from that, the case had be dropped (looks like a few times) and the box I sent in it has only like minor protection or foam. I want to know if anyone has a number or someone I can call to get my money back becuase I insured it for 1K and well...its beyond fixing. If anyone has any stores that fun too.

you should have a number on your reciept, if not go to fedex.com and find it.

if you don't have reciepts for the stuff you had inside, you might be screwed

if you don't take many MANY photos of the damage, you might be screwed

if you want your claim settled quick, you're definitely screwed
 
Also if you packed it with foam that stuff generates static electricity and may have zapped the thing enough times to run some of it.
 
I shipped a couple with the heatsinks attached. Shipped a new 'puter to my sister (from TX to NY), and it arrived safe & sound, no problems. That heatsink was one that had a 3 hold clip (which really makes a difference, imho), and held with no problems. I also shipped it in the original case box (wrapped in paper, so no problems with static electricity zaps), then put that in a larger box, with more foam peanuts. Most importantly, I made it so the box laid flat more easily that stood up (if that makes any sense).

Shipped her old celery 333 back here (I can always find someone that needs an oldy like that for their kid), and did have the heatsink fall off. Luckily, I shipped it back flat, and it didn't damage anything. Shoot, it booted up and ran just fine for about 10 minutes, before it finally got heated up enough to start running funky........I shut it down, and opened the case, and found it that way (heatsink was sitting in the bottom of the case). A little artic silver 5, reattached the heatsink, and it ran fine. :)
 
Good luck getting any shipping company to pay off on shipping damage. Doesn't matter if you bought the insurance from them or how badly they damaged the box. For example, UPS has a policy of no insurance payouts for damage. Insurance only pays out for a lost shipment and then only after you drag them through the streets for 6 months. I understand FedEx is a bit better, but not much.

Whenever I ship computer stuff of value I always ship it through a friendly computer store. They have some clout...you don't. :(
