Yeah, so I just got done building my first case and realized I want to put some look and light into it. I was thinking along the lines of a cathode tube, but I was turned onto an article showing what they can do (basicially frying some guy's case up). Was just curious if they are truly safe to use and if so, which brands or types are suggested. Also what would be other in case lighting alternatives?
 
They call them COLD cathodes for a reason... if you want you could always go with L.E.D. fans. though, I've found them not to light as evently as a pair of CCFLs.
 
You take a risk doing any mods. And if it's the inverter you're worried about, I'd advise against the EL Wire Too... ;)
 
strange how thats the only picture ive seen on the web about a cc blowing up. its an extremely that would NOT happen to you. buy them and be happy :) I prefer LEDs tho since they give a decent amount of light w/o taking much space.

Fry? Hah! I can touch my cathode lights, they're freaking cold! I bought mine from thinkgeek.com (13$ for a dual cathode set, shipping included is freaking badass). If you want to get the ones I got then click go to this link > http://www.thinkgeek.com/pcmods/lighting/5b60/

They didn't raise my case temp at all, and like I said I can touch them when they're on and they're cold.

the dual sets are only $1.50 more because its the inverter thats the majority of the cost, lights are cheap. i do suggest the cheaper ones over the coolermaster to
