I am getting a case for my server that I will ahve raid5 in with 6 IDE drives, ( 1 is the hot spare ). I want to have space on the front of the box for drive trays, either 6x5.25" or 6 3.5" so I can quickly swap them out. Preferably I would still like to have another 5.25 or two availible to put in other things such as a multi-card reader and cd/dvd drive. USB on the front is also a plus.

I was looking at a server case such as this: http://www.gorilla.net/gorispro/rak-509_rackmount_case.htm
but they want $1,700 for it and that is WAY out of my league.

and a pc case such as this
http://www.ibuypower.com/parts/CASE/8-Bay-raidcom.htm

I am leaning toward the ibuypower case, as it is only $125

Do you have any other suggestions for a case to look for? I am not at all opposed to getting a used server case.

Thanks!

I like the ibuypower case as well. Wish i had seen this about a week ago, would have been the perfect case for our server at work :(

check out the selection at www.servercase.com they have a nice full tower with 10x5.25 for ~80 if i remember correctly, they have a decent selection of larger servercases as well

I previously was running an IDE RAID setup with one of the RAIDBAY products. Here's a pic of the U160 version.. (I wouldn't suggest Comp-USA btw, it's just a pic). 2 of these would support 6 drives nicely. I know there is an IDE version. 4 bays for 6 drives.

It will add some cost to your setup obviously, but it's a better use of the space than filling all the available drive bays with 5.25" racks, and it allows you to choose from a larger variety of cases.

EDIT: removed the SATA stuff since I actually read your post and noticed IDE in capital letters... :)

Sweet looking case, Evil, but it wouldn't have fit all my drives tho..........Not with the sleds installed, anyways.......hehe
