I move my computer alot, wether its too my friends house or just backand forth from place to place..

My specs are 3800+ x2 64
7900GT KO
asus a8n-sli mobo

im looking for a nice sterdy ATX case

I was debating this case, but not sure if its good in the long run

If you move it a lot, you are probably going to want a case with mostly metal and no plastic. I don't know if you need a window or not, but it would be best not to have one because it can get scratched up and broken. Also, make sure the case has a door on the front to protect your drives/fan controllers/bay devices from being messed up. I don't know your price range, but I would maybe look into:

These are just some suggestions, there are tons more than this though, and each one of those has their own advantages/disadvantages. If you want a window in the case and no door on the front, there are even more options. There are also people that are bias against some of those because they have a personal agenda to run. I could care less when it comes to cases, as long as it houses the hardware the way it should. I've owned Thermaltake cases, Antec, Aspire, Raidmax, and I'm going to pick up my Lian Li V1000 Monday. I really don't have a bias toward what I use, I find ways to work around the things I don't like about each case.
 
If you were limited to ATX, I would go with a light aluminum case, something that you wouldnt mind the occasional scratch. I'd put some solid casters on the bottom of it, and then I'd either mod a nice handle onto it, or go with one of those "strap on" handles a la the Lanboy you were looking at. I'm sure the lanboy would be fine for your purposes, personally I don't care for the looks of it (I'd take a previous gen lanboy over that any day)... but thats your call.
 
I can tell you from personal experience, you DO NOT want to get an Antec P180 for moving alot. Trust me the case alone is at least 20-25 lbs, with nothing in it. Now if you want a quiet cool lookin case that you wont move alot, then go with the P180, I love mine, but i dont lan often. I think that lan boy would be a good idea for moving alot, I used to have one and the thing is really light. Get an aluminum case if you dont go with the lan boy, stay away from all steel construction (like the p180)

yeah, i thought about that case mainly cause it looks so nice:D
but some of the reviews said it scratched very easly, and the door doesnt open up all the way


anyone else have person experience w/ the lanboy?
 
I used to have the lanboy that you mentioned. I liked it alot, but I had it when all I had was a AthonXP 3000+ and a ATi 9600, so there wasnt as much heat. I dont think that it would have a problem with your set up, just gotta make sure that you've got your fans blowing good. The carrying strap it came with is actually pretty nice. I still have that, and I use it to carry my P180 (10 times as much weight as the lanboy)
Just gotta make sure everything is nice and snug so it doesnt slip out. I made it so that the straps would rest against the feet on the bottom so they wouldnt move.
All in all, its a nice case. Got a little toolkit too, that can come inhandy if you've got a problem at a lan and need some screws or something.

You might try putting in a fan on the side with the window, or maybe changing out the exhaust fan with a LED'd one to make it purdyer.
 
Ah okay, thanks .. i was thinking about buying one of those little LED strips that you put at the bottom of your sindel panel so it lights up the inside more.. but not sure if its worth the time and efford to put one inside.. lol
 
Whatever case you get, the Geargrip can handle any weight. Even though I only used it on my qpack for carrying it for a few yards, it proved a wise investment, and I even got to shake it from the handle and it held steady.
 
No. The G5 is NOT super portable. Trust me. Mine weighs 76 lbs fully loaded ;).

Personally, as ugly as (IMO) it is, I'd go for the lanboy with some nice handles from Home Depot. It's a sturdy, small case, with lots of nice options.
 
Arcygenical, What is in your G5 Case?

Not even my steel cased (old antec) copper piped water cooled system weighs that much.

I'll agree with you on the Lanboy, mainly because I have one and it's fantastic. It's extremely light, has great cooling, and is under $80.

However, the aluminum on the top is pretty thin, so I wouldn't recommend handles for that very reason. The good thing is, it comes with carrying straps which work fantastic for carrying this case. You can carry the entire thing fully loaded with one hand with the included straps. I'd recommend the Lanboy to anyone looking for a lightweight, small (Outside dimensions... it is actually prety roomy inside with the HDD bays facing sideways. I was able to fit my system with a 7800GTX in there with room to spare), easy to carry case. It has pretty much everything you need for well under $100.
 
True, but it's easy to reinforce the aluminum with some cheap ass 1/4" acrylic pieces (I just use scraps from around the workshop). A 4" by 2" panel per handle... well, I can assure you the top won't bend ;). I'll be doing that to my case in a couple of days, I'll keep you posted if you'd like.

That would be cool if you could. If so, I may use handles instead of the straps... but for now, the straps work perfectly.

I might mod the entire front of the case, too... we'll see how adventurous I become. It's more and more tempting every time I look at it.

I saw this case the other night at CompUSA, and after seeing it online for so long, I was surprised at how flimsy the door was. The magnet that holds it shut is pretty weak, too.

No matter what, get some locking casters and handles. And get something that you don't mind getting scratched.
