i have two gtx 480's but i only run one right now, because with one, the max temp is 87c. If i were to put the second one in, it would go right under the first, and i'd imagine my temps would go up even further. right now i am using a antec 1200 case, but it is getting pretty old. is there a worthy replacement, that will bring the gpu temps down?

Your case should not be the reason why it's overheating. Try to see if there is enough ventilation. Also try adding a case fan or two. Are you overclocking?

I'd agree that the case is not the issue here. If I remember correctly, those GF 100 cards run real hot and the temp you listed above is right in line where you would expect it to be.

That case should have a mount in the window for a side fan. Are you using it and if so, with what fan?

well, to see if it was the airflow or not, i took the side panel off my case, and put my wind tunnel fan, a fan you plug into the wall that moves a crapload of air, and the temps didn't go down at all. by the way that temp is with the gpu fan at 100%, im still scared to add the second card. lol

something is wrong with your card IMO.
i'd take the HSF off and clean and reapply a proper TIM on the chips.

do you have the mosfet heatsinks installed as well?

Looking for a case? Tell you what, you can put them in my case. Ha! ;)

But seriously, I would remove the hsf, clean, appy a good paste and reseat.

Those temps don't sound too extraordinary if you ask me. Sounds like the GTX 480 being a GTX 480.

They run fine up to 100C

If it really bothers you, put them under water or get the Arctic Cooling units - I have two of those and my cards run cool and quiet. (But I still need a portable A/C in my office)

Mine will get up in the 90s they chips can go to 105c thats there where they have issues. 480s are the hottest gpus made that i know of.

I had SLI 480s in my FT02. It kept them pretty damn cool in comparison to the temps others were getting. I think max load temps for me were around 85-92c and they'd idle around 45c.
