I bought a Rosewill Ranger-M case and the front fan has both a 3-pin connector and a standard molex connector.

I wanted to test the fan (don't have mobo yet), so I used a power adapter and connected it to the molex.

The fan did absolutely nothing.

Is there something I'm missing here? Do I possibly have a defective fan?

I plan on using the 3-pin connecter @ the mobo, but again, the fan didn't even move when power was supplied to the molex.

It's a power adapter intended for powering IDE drives externally. It had a standard 4-pin molex-style connector.

I'm assuming this IDE power supply is around 1.0A and 12VDC?

Does the Molex connector for the fan have yellow/back wires or red/black wires?

Yellow/Black= 12VDC
Red/Black= 5VDC

If the Molex connector on the fan has Red/Black, then it won't work. It's not even completing a connection. You'll have to jumper it over to run 12VDC through your fan.

try using the PSU and do the "clip trick"

Verify the Amps in the external source if you are not able to do the jumper clip trick

I had assumed the PSU was installed when he tested, but if not: do this /\

Otherwise, if the PSU is installed and powering on, then I'm still pretty sure you're not completing the connection. The molex 4 pin connector uses different pinout for 12VDC than it does 5VDC.
