Case Fan Controller Wiring

Hey guys, quick question.

Just got a scythe 4 channel fan controller to turn down the speed on my new case fans.

One is a 120mm Kaze and already had a 3 pin connector which plugged right into the fan controller, works perfect.

The other case fan is the trouble maker. Its an 80mm Vantec Tornado and has no three pin connector. It has a red and black that run into a 4 pin molex and a yellow wire that is a "custom made cable for fan R.P.M detection."

Heres my theory. If I splice black - black, red - red, yellow - yellow to one of the extra 3 pin connectors that came with the fan controller I should be able to control the fan speed. Right?

I wanted to consult you folks before I try it and burn my house down.

Thanks in advance! :D

you are correct this would work...... BUT you need to worry about what wattage the fan controller can support per channel without burning it out. If I remember correctly the Tornado fans were in the 20-25 watt range at a minimum. If it were me I would leave the tornado hooked to a 4pin molex and 5 or 7 volt mod the connector. if you need steps on doing this I would be happy to explain in further detail.
