Hi all,

I think I am having issues with my aluminum cooler master case shocking me.

When I reach behind my case and touch some of the screws that are holding the PSU into my case I get a shock.

I just replaced a dead PSU for an unknown reason, could this be the problem?

Should I get a new case?

That's definitely not good. I'm not sure what the problem could be, aside from loose wires touching the metal of the case (possibly a mobo problem?). The new PSU you got could have a serious grounding issue. Did it start right after you installed the new one?

I thought this was going to be a thread about someone wanting to protect their quad GTX480s with some sort of electrical shock case. Hey, if you can't figure it out you can always dump it on someone else and tell them it's a security feature!
 
Sounds like the PSU itself may be defective.

Open it up, and check to see if the ground is bonded to the chassis (of the psu). Don't touch anything in there, it still has some potential when unplugged. You can try to turn the pc on while it's unplugged to drain most of the power but I would not count on that.

Normally there is a green wire going from the male plug end, to the case of the psu.

In your case it almost sounds like the hot is bonded to the case somehow. Maybe the Chinese kid that put it together at the factory got the wires mixed up. :p

Do not do that! Opening your power supply case will in most cases void your warranty, if I were you I'd get that PSU replaced. Whose the manufacturer? Also, do you only get shocked when you touch the psu screws, or do u get shocked other times also?
 
#1 make sure it really isnt a static charge... you can really feel those some times. it would be very hard for it to electrify your case and not blow the fuse in your case or trip the breaker in your house. do you have grounded outlets?

are you on carpet? wearing socks? the current would have to be going through you for you to feel it. and in most cases you are not the easiest path for it to follow.

and remember, when messing with it, only use one hand, if you cant trust your self, tape it behind your back, you can mess with it all you want so long as the current doesnt cross your heart. use fingers on the same hand, touch the case where you think you are getting shocked, and touch something else metal that is grounded, if you feel a steady tingle then something is up. and it wont kill you from pinkie to thumb : P
