What is the proper terminology for these things? Any idea where you can get them with lenghts of wire already attached but without LEDs or switches?
I'm sure someone has them but I don't know the proper term. Thanks.

looks like a hard drive led lead to me. check your mobo manual to see where you can connect it.

anyone could have told him that, for gods sake it says it right on the damn connecter...

on another hand, you might be able to pull the wires out and just use some longer ones with the same plastic piece...

I had to get the same thing. I described it at one of the local shops that does repairs. They pulled out a shoebox sized basket full of them. Most had a switch or LED at the other end, but (obviously) that took a half second to clip off.
I needed one for the case power LED up front. Someone had jury-rigged it onto a 4-pin, 5-volt modded PSU molex. That worked OK but I wanted it hooked to the other mobo headers like all of the other case leads.

I dont think any of you have answered his question (Tim you posted some helpful information while I was typing this though). I believe he wants to know the nature of the names of the wires in his picture...

The connection that wire you illustrate goes to is called a motherboard header. The wire in question is typically referred to as a front panel or front panel LED header connection. I dont know where you can find replacement header connection already assembled (but local mom and pop computer shops and the like typically have a bin with spares lying around), but I can tell you where to find the parts needed to make one. Wiring can be found locally really cheap so that is not an issue, but the connectors to make them I buy from here:

I believe that is what you are looking for. Just get some header connectors of your choice as you will see they have various sizes, and then make sure you get the "Terminal Female" as found on that page to make the wires seat in the header connector. Most any small gauge wiring will do the trick as the terminal will wrap around the exposed ends. Come in packs of 10 BTW... Very cheap. Hope that helps.

Excellent Mickey21!! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks so much for the answer and the link!

Yeah I love that place for connectors and such. The whole site is helpful like this:http://www.frontx.com/head_con.html in regards to this subject.

I about fell over when they did things like these below though, which really helps me make covers and panels for custom mods...

I mean how useful is that. Even icons to label the ports. Nice...
