Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. I am aiming to keep all on a similar theme, but any font or color combination within reason can be done. Also, if anyone is interested, I have the majority of these in approx 1000x1000 res psd files.

I still think any team shirt/badge should represent the *entire* team not just 1 part of it.

The [H]orde takes part in 2 *official* projects, every member that takes part in *either* of the 2 *official* projects deserves to be reprisented, by adding folding or team #33 you're completely alienating a part of the team.

No member should feel alienated because they choose to do either F@H or UD, they all deserve the same respect as we're all part of the *same* team.

King_N has a good point but it looks to me like all but one of them posted so far could be used for fah or ud. I think just leaving #33 off would be good enough to represent both, the ud guys deserve props too. I gotta say that they look pretty cool so far.

King N,

I don't disagree, but I think we should be democratic about it and leave the submissions up to a vote. Mayhem will probably produce a "non-specific" piece of badge work if you provide him some ideas.

Sure I will, Tell me what you want! :D

I just updated my post near the top. For anyone interested, I have the psd and tif files I was working with, and for any interested Microstation users, I also have the dgn files.

Great. I'm liking #4. The H seems a little small for the brackets though.

Democratic is fine as long as all parties are represented as a result, that is what I'm pushing for. The point of this wasn't to start an argument, just get the *FULL* team represented by removing individule project markers from the submissions. If a submission that has an individule project marker is chosen then 1 part of the team would not be represented as part of the whole(that would be unacceptable).

Mayhem your submissions look great (#4 does have a project marker), in fact all the submissions look great, just need to remove the individule project markers off of a few of them, that way everyone who is a member of the [H]orde regardless of project is represented as a whole as the end result.

The name of your web site uses the word folding, does that not exclude the UD guys.
What would you suggest for verbage?
Please realize I mean no disrespect, just trying to understand what to use! :)

The name of the website was chosen back when we were a 1 project team, it was decided back when we became a 2 project team (G@H days) that we should continue to use it rather then uproot everything and start over.

However if you notice on hardfolding.com, each project is represented, no 1 project gets better coverarge, neither project is considered better then the other, I have done all in my power to make sure that remains a constant regardless of which official project I participate in, so far I have participated in all 3 of the official projects F@H, G@H(completed), and UD.

Perhaps instead of using Folding@Home, Team #33, Folder. Folding, change it to DC Team or perhaps replace it with DCing for a Cure, that represents both projects.

Thanks for your response and it makes sense to me.
Your thoughts on verbage?

King_N,

I think the other problem is that most people don't know specifically what UD does and also don't understand what all the "markers" are. I couldn't tell you what would define a neutral design.

My screening of the entries on this thread would say the following are neutral:
Mayhem33:
1,2,3,5,6
p[H]ant0m:
2,3,4,5,7
Schmave:
2
Goat:
No neutral badges

Please let me know if I am wrong and why.

BTW, I added rule #4 to state that the effort should be neutral, but I would like some help in defining what that means.

Just edited the above post to answer your questions.

In answer to what UD is about.

United Devices is a project not unsimilar to Folding@Home, the differance is that UD is focused on finding a cure for cancer, the results are the property of Oxford University and the Nationial Foundation for Cancer Research.

Whereas Stanford's current goals with Folding@Home target other dreadful diseases such as;

Resource: http://folding.stanford.edu/science.html#disease (Located under the section WHAT HAVE WE DONE SO FAR AND WHERE ARE WE GOING?)

"More recently, we have been putting a great deal of effort into studying proteins relevant for diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Hunntington's, and Osteogenesis Imperfecta."

So as you can see both projects are working on finding cures to dreadful diseases, both projects are completely worthwhile, and the results for both projects belong to *respected* well known Universities. It's just a matter of which disease/diseases you're interested in helping cure, that's why we're part of both projects.

I see a lot of papers produced by Dr. Pande and his folding team, but I don't see anything produced by UD?
Where has all that energy gone to?
Where are the scientific papers?
Where are the results???

UD is absolutely nothing like Folding@Home except that it is a Science DC project...
The equality of these projects is only in the minds of a couple of people... King_N being one of them.

You guys keep folding and slap the #33 on those cool logo's...
And more power to ya!

Does the term [H]orde apply to both? If so, I say let that be the focus. Schmaves is closest to what I'd like.

Larry, last time I checked you were not a member of [H], so in that respect your opinion does not count toward team views.

Also *If* you had bothered to look http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/curecancer.html

The term [H]orde was created by the UD team, before that we were known as the [H]erd, basically a [H]erd of Elep[H]ants getting ready to do our infamous Elep[H]ant Dump on ARS's lawn(G@H).

Here is an image from the period right before the UD team was formed.

hardElephant.jpg

When the UD Part of the team was formed we warned the UD community Beware the [H]orde Cometh!!! it was at that moment we became known as the [H]orde.

Enough Thread crapping. Lets see some more great artwork.
I will be at my old apt tomorow packin up my stuff so I will
try and post one here with my uber bad skills. if it becomes
such a big problem about the different groups if one doesnt like
the design (since this has been largely brought about for the
F@T and by 33'ers.. then we can always do another case badge
thread for the UD people so they get something cool as well.

that is if all the kids cant play nicely together and decide on
one that works for everyone.

Amen to that, and to get things back on track, if anyone has any design requests share em, or show us what you've got!!! There isn't much time left between now and tomorrow night (and at least for me 3D renders take a decent chunk of time).

Phantom,

How do you extrude the H in your 4th post?

If you could wrap that with a protein it might look good. Of course I could be full of crapola.

The one's with the [H] that is too small were done with an extrusion perpendicular to the face, with a 90 twist throughout. It's a raytraced image with global lighting, and all of the surfaces are bump-mapped images. The orage section is actually just one of the default materials included with Microstation, its a flame material that can animate when used in a ray-trace animation. I've got a couple more renders I did today, using kind of the same theme, just varying the size of the [H] and chamfers and fillets, and a couple of different material renders.

I'm still undecided on the protein in there, as I am not sure if I have the talent to pull it off. Anyhow, with all the discussion of being specifically UD or F@H, that just the [H] and Horde were all I really wanted in one of these. Anyone that has Microstation or Autocad is more than welcome to my files to give it a crack however.

It's too bad doing these in different colors would be so expensive as I think it would be cool to do just the [H]'s with the applicable colors to xENo's one's.

What about taking someone elses protein, Maybe Mayhem will help or off the Stanford site and try a texture map?

This is all wrong. Where are the naked women case badges?

I've actually got one special one I am planning on unveiling this evening. Nothing naked, but I am sure that it'll be appreciated.

OK I've updated mine again. Hito, let me know if you get them, with these files sizes I'm not real trusting of Gmail.
