The case against the teenager that was arrested for making "terroristic threats" on Facebook is moving forward after a recent motion to quash was denied.

The motion to quash the case against the teen accused of making 'terroristic' threats on Facebook was denied Monday. According to the indictment, Justin Carter wrote on Facebook: "Shoot up a kindergarten watch the blood rain down and eat the beating heart out of one of them." He was then charged with making terroristic threats.

Anyone that believes that what he said was a threat is an idiot who does not deserve to breath the air of this planet.

Then again, this is Texas, a state which sets new standards for stupidity on a daily basis. It is a shame that the kid isn't loaded; perhaps he could have claimed "affulenza" and gotten off.

Oh how I miss the days when talk like that was passed as foolishness and a joke.

Where has those days gone?
Wonder when giving the evil eye to someone will constitute a threat( sempt the old west, because gun totting cowboys were exempted back then).

While the case is stupid, the kid is also stupid. We have seen cases like this happening for a few years now, why would you post it on something public like FaceBook? Stupid people do stupid stuff, more news @ 11.

FTFY.

IDK, I heard the judge is thinking twice about what she/he handed the boy who killed those four people.
Or maybe not...
But, atleast they are getting sued. :)

If there was any hate speech involved, we should add 80 years to his sentence. I mean, let's not over-react.

It's a new day and age... The kid was a damn idiot for doing what he did, no doubt. But, charged with terroristic threats? Spank the kid and move on. He wasn't going to do anything, he was just being a damn moron.

It's like getting into a fender bender and being charged with attempted murder. It's blown WAY out of proportion. But, with the recent events the past few years, I can see why some people would overreact to it. I'd handle it differently, myself. Except for being an idiot isn't a crime.

what's next? shit talking online will now be banned?

I remember when I graduated highi school (2000) we had all sorts of crazy shit talking and fucked up things being said. There was no facebook at the time and of course nothing ever happened.

Only ones happy to see crap like this happening are the lawyers.

Yeah, definitely blown out of proportion but it's been like this for several years now.
Child gets angry at teacher and makes a short quip to a friend that gets reported?
Expelled.

Child says something about their dislike of certain classmates on Facebook and is considered a death threat?
Expelled.

Child reports he or she was being bullied by other student(s)?
Expelled.

17 or 18 year old high school senior caught kissing his 15 year old freshman girlfriend?
Sex offenders list and sent to jail for non-consensual sexual acts on a minor.

Child gets injured during a football game and dies or becomes paralyzed?
Sue the school, suspend or fire the coach.

Child bullies a person into suicide?
Suspended, no jail time.

Child makes stupid comments on Facebook as spite or anger towards another person regarding a game?
Considered a terrorist threat, possible jail time or juvenile hall until 18 years old, then sent to jail.
Our society, namely the US, is all sorts of fucked up right now.

If there was any talk that could sound like hate speech involved, we should add 80 years to his sentence, riot the streets and demand change Change CHANGE of this oppression. I mean, let's not over-react.

FTFY. :)

Spank the kid and move on.

Dude that is child abuse, and since spanking is on the that will constitute rape. We can't have that, can we?

The PLANET is setting new standards for stupidity. Why call out Texas or the U.S. specifically? A blogger was just sentenced to DEATH in Saudi Arabia, China imprisons people that surf unapproved websites and so on.

The key here is that there is now profit in locking up school children for doing things that would have gotten you detention in the past. Schools don't even just expel people anymore, now they call the local gestapo. The prisons are run by private corporations and the states have quotas to meet in order to avoid fines so they lock up as many people as possible for all manner of minor and non offenses.

That was a pretty stupid post, sorry. It has no relevance to the current situation. China is not a free country per say, and neither is Saudi Arabia. They don't hide the fact that they don't support freedom of speech or liberties, while the US supposedly does.

Being sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia isn't stupid, its tyrannical.

Stupid would be like "Rapture" Rick Perry and George W. Bush.

Well, the kid is definitely twisted as hell.. Maybe a couple talks with a shrink to look for any real threats, but taking him to court? Wanting to imprison him? That will only make the painting in question come closer to life..

1) Why are CHILDREN allowed to have Facebook accounts?

2) I've heard worse than that in the way of smack-talk while gaming within the last 48 hours.

The kid is going to have his life ruined in the name of political correctness. Because that's what this really is. Making a random example out of someone.

Welcome to the 2009-2016 super happy rainbow repair all beaming free but not free insurance giving voter importing freedom dwindling terrorist aiding administration of modern times.

(no names listed as to not hurt someones feelings of course) But if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... Its probably an F ing duck

Its all been building up to this point everyone. Any crime can and probably will start to get the terrorist label soon, and all the normal ways of dealing with it can be ignored as we let the Dept of Homeland Fascism start doing things. Welcome to the United Socialist Republic of Northern Mexico. freaking a...

I just remember growing up in tech classes and sometime around 2002 someone threatened to kill George W Bush. Secret Service showed up and did a little searching (talked to the teacher and a few other kids) but someone had left their account open and another student had sent a threatening letter to the President. Funny no one ever admitted they did it, and the kid who did it definitely wouldn't either. Never even made the local news in my hometown (Greater San Francisco Bay Area).

Now apply this story to that. Jesus Christ. our country changed.

If they do nothing, and the kid ends up involved in some kind of attack, then all hell breaks loose. They don't get punished for overreacting though, so its the safer bet.

Actually, now they have even applied protesting as a low level form of terrorism.. So, its here now, but still cloaked as a sheep for the masses.. The underlining crap is scary as hell..

Shouldn't the NSA have picked up on this with Prism

I used to tell my roommate I would cut his head off when he bothered me. We both knew I was joking, we're great friends, and will sit there swearing at each other just because we could, and it was all in fun.

His mom came over one day, I threatened to beat his face in with a bat, she went apeshit with disapproval, I told her, I'll talk to my roommate however I want in my own house - You don't know the context in which we talk, nor are you able to comprehend that it's a form of awesomeness.. He then responded by threatening to slice my arm off and flail me with it like a mace, she looked at him like "the fuck?"
That exchange alone probably would have gotten both of us sentenced to death these days, or at least lifetime mental care facility, despite the fact that both involved parties were speaking knowing it was nothing even remotely serious, that it was a way of communicating and giving shit between two (messed up in the head) friends.

I can just come up with some fucked up things to say. I'd never do any of it, but I also don't see it as realistic when I say it - When I say things to a friend, I picture more of a cartoon-type thing, which makes it hilarious, not an actual graphic image of what I said - that's just messed up...

But yes, lets send the kid to a shrink, because he does what I'm pretty sure EVERY person has done at least once in their life - joked about something really fucked up. I bet most of you in here have made dead baby jokes - that's just as fucked as what this kid said.

The kid doesn't need to be in jail, he doesn't need to see a shrink, he needs to be left the hell alone. Except now, he DOES need a shrink, after being mistreated in jail and in trouble for an obvious joke (even poor taste jokes are not a fucking crime)

To a liberal, that's almost as bad as a racist joke. Gunny from Full Metal Jacket sure as heck wouldn't be allowed to say any of his famous movie lines these days, that's for sure!

while it's ridiculous, I have a nagging suspicion society is not worse off for missing this little mouthy chimp who thought he was being cool on Facebook.

Nor would Blazing Saddles be able to be released. Nor many other older movies. Breakfast at Tiffany's had that asian guy, compare that to the blackface fiasco of Tropic Thunder.

People are scared to do anything because of lawsuits or offending someone. People are too sensitive. I agree there is a point where it is too much. But, in context, a lot of it isn't. People neglect the context things are done in. The kid needs some evaluation. But, there are a lot of kids that say shit like "I wish you were dead" or "I hope the school burns down" or whatever. They aren't going to follow through on it. It's just something someone said when they were mad. I think a lot of kids are guilty of that. Most of them are probably a bit younger than he is, but it still stands.

Minority Report - he's guilty before he even committed the crime.

Stupid kid who said stupid things and shouldn't be charged as a terrorist? Undoubtedly.

Growing up in the 90s, before these things were taking seriously, did many of us make similar statements purely in spiteful jest in the youth of the net? Absolutely.

Overreaction by a big brother state run amock? Probably.

That said, just to play devils advocate to a very one sided discussion so far...

99.9% of the time, stupid kid says stupid stuff, means none of it. Life goes on, maybe someday the little net raging jerkwad grows some maturity. But the .1% of the time where stupid kid says he will shoot up a kindergarten, then actually DOES, suddenly everyone wants to know why no one took action when he made the threats.

I would argue that there should be real consequences to making statements like this kid made. Terroristic threats and a ruined life? No, of course not. But psych evals, counseling and being pulled out of regular school until he can be determined to be stable? Probably not a bad idea.

Kid should have his head beaten in and his family murdered in front of him.

Am I doing this correctly?

Follow up on the threat? Yes, of course. Just to make sure he isn't that .1%. Have someone check on him, make sure he isn't suicidal or whatever. Make him understand that those threats are serious and not taken lightly.

Put the kid in jail or possible prison time for terrorist threats? Fuck no.

I guess I will take these guys and a booming economy over Nancy Pelosi and Obungler fing up the economy. I mean really, your god Obama rammed the worst piece of legislation in HISTORY and now it is crumbling around him.

Talk about irony!

Because it is all the rage to point out how bad America is while thinking other nations are becoming paragons of freedom and civility.

Based on his quotes bashing Texas and then the quotes about Perry and Bush.

It is not that wild of an assumption.
