carputer vs. head unit

Hey, i'm deciding weather or not I should put a carputer in my car. here's the thing, either way when I get a job i'm going to be upgrading my entire system. the head unit I have picked out is a pioneer deh6800, which runs for about 300~ on ebay.

if I put a carputer, i already have a full computer sitting in my closet for the past year or so which I don't use, it has a soundblaster live 5.1. the lcd touch screen runs for about 250$

now my question is what would be the sound quality difference between a carputer and that head unit?

i'm assuming the amp preouts would be low powered on the computer, would a equalizer fix this? anythign else on this?

back on to the subject though, sound quality between is a touchy subject, but if you're not a audiophile, there wont be a huge difference either way.
