Is it safe to do this? I sold my case and my other one is coming in 2 weeks. I don't want anything to catch on fire hehe. I'll be setting in on a wooden shelf. No danger? My motherboard already has a power on button (evga 780i).

What we did several years ago was to stuff it into a milkcrate making it a bit portable. It makes it easy to transport and you can use zip ties (1 dollar for the cheapos) to secure components to the crate. The cardboard box does work though and ive done it several times, the risk is there though that you could short out components, although its been a great deal of time since ive heard of anyone actually doing that. Usually if your ballsy enough to do this you already either dont care that you would lose the hardware and you probably know what your doing to some degree.

I was thinking anti static bag under the motherboard. Not to sure about that. I'll just be connecting one HDD and the PSU. I can't see anything breaking, I'll obviously wouldn't dare touching it at any time.

I put that little foam thingy under and put the hdd facing down on it and it wouldn't turn on for a good 10 minutes, got so worried, but found out it was the DVI cable. Any pointers? Face the HDD up or down?

Temps are high, so I'll be using the computer a lot less unless i get the new case.

I've seen mounting screws through the board threaded in to the brass stand-offs, and that just sitting on a desk - seems fine to me.

I've always noticed the PCB of my hdds is hotter than the disk cover, even with active cooling, so I'd leave it up side down.

I wouldn't worry about temps and just leave it at stock clocks if it's that much of an issue. No need to cut pc time.

BTW, you get my last PM about the receipt?

Yea I did.

Cardboard is neither conductive nor hugely static, so there shouldn't be any issues with it :)

Of course, if you were to make a _real_ case out of cardboard, you could add fans and everything to it ;)
