Im going to be purchasing parts for my gaming pc in a week or 2.

Going to get 3 x Samsung S27a750's as my screens (Big upgrade from my 24" samsung 60hz).

What card/s would I need to play in 3D, 5760x1080 , good settings, decent frames?

Or better to wait untill next gen cards are released? therefore what card/s would I need to play in 2D, 5760x1080, good settings, decent frames?

If you're really pushing for 3D I would go with 2x GTX500's

If you're down for 2D I would go with 2x 6900's.

Nvidia's 3D Support seems to be much more solid and prevalent at this point, mostly due to it being closed in nature and them pushing it. AMD has a more open approach to 3D and works with 3rd parties for 3D Support.

Personally though, unless you're planning on spending $$$ on 2 or 3 580 3gb cards I would just stick with 2D and go with some 6900's this gen. The extra VRAM on the 6900's will help with the large resolution and give you better ROI, imo.

I'm sure someone like heatless could chime in with more info, I don't really see much in the ways of AMD Steroscopic 3D but I think it's something they're really gonna push with their next line of GPU's. I believe the new Deus Ex will be the poster child for AMD's 3D gettup.

i have two 6990's on water and i run almost any game maxed out at 7680x1600 so i would say get a 6990 or 6970

at that res you need the VRAM, best bang for the buck, 2 reference 6950's, unlock and overclock and call it a day.

you will NEED 2 gpus at minimum to process that res and some good amount of vram if you want to turn the eye candy up.

if you want 3D, there's really only one choice: Nvidia.

And if you're serious about it, at those resolutions, I had do dump my 590 and go for 3x GTX580's 3GB cards. Honestly, I could use a fourth. 3D is a motherfucker to render. 2x 3GB GTX580 SLI simply was not enough to push it in 3D. If I was willing to not use the 3D on my screens, then 2 card SLI would have been enough.

But, if you only want 2D, and not 3D, then I'd agree...6950's unlocked, and get two of those.

Many thanks for feedback it helps :)

Now onto something I understand perhaps a little less...
Samsungs new 27" monitors, SA750 or SA950.

Do I Need the Dual-DVI of the 950?, or will the 3 x DisplayPorts of the 750 work for 1080p / 120hz on 3 screens?

it's not Dual DVI, it's dual link DVI, which you will need in order to run Nvidia 3D on those panels... if they actually support Nvidia 3D and offer true 120Hz refresh rates, and not interpolated refresh rates like the current Samsung displays do, where they're injecting frames in order to increase the appearance of smooth video.

I've not seen anything on the Nvidia 3D Vision site listing these as being compatible, so if that's what you're after, it might be best to wait for a release/review. Sammy's are exactly cheap. would be a shame to spent the money and not get what you're after.

I've heard this for a long time but even when they reviewed a 5870 1gb vs 2gb there was negligible difference at high res, I keep hearing it from everyone but all the tests i have seen indicate in the majority of situations it doesn't make much real world difference at all, mostly around 2/3fps diff - although some games tank with 1gb i think out of the tested games there were 1 or 2 (from modern games) that it could possibly make a difference.

With 2 6850's in metro 2033 dx11 mode and 5760 x 1080 i run out of raw power far before i come close to using the 1gb buffer, same goes for everygame that i can't run maxed. Suprisingly i can max out pretty much all games i have(new as well) and add at least 2xAA (adaptive aa), crysis runs fine but just not enough power to max settings.

I would think just cause 2 would be a mem hog as it is all open world and looks amazing maxed @ 5760 in dx11(or 10? max it supports) but even with 2xaa it runs fine without using the 1gb buffer and 4xaa is just a bit too demanding on the cards not vram as if i overclock it performs better which wouldn't be the case if there was a vram issue.

Yes i agree that this could become an issue in the future once next gen consoles come and pc games all progress graphically not just a select few, but again from what i have seen and experienced at this moment in time 1gb is adequate. For someone who can buy 2 top cards now and is on [H] will surely upgrade long before it becomes a real issue. (which is solved as all new cards, high end of course, have at least 1.5gb from now and surely nvidia will add more soon and amd is allready 2gb)

This could have been a huge problem except crossplatform and dx9 only games pretty much muted the whole issue and then higher vram card's took over highend anyway, which you want for 5760.

Imo 1gb is sufficient today and for a long time to come at that res because of the consoles. Either the game is too demanding to be run at that res due to raw power or you play religiously one of the handful of games that uses the bigger vram buffer, 1gb will be fine in the majority of cases to come in the next 6months and if it's not only 1 or 2 games will need more at most. If you can/want to afford 2x 2gb 6950/70's or 1.5gb gtx4/5xx then yes they are a better option due to raw power moreso than vram, but if you own a 5850/70 or 68xx card even 6950 1gb variant then adding an extra card works perfect in 90%+ cases.

I can't stand low choppy fps and am a graphics whore and 2x 6850's work's much better than i expected when i 1st heard the 1 vs 2gb argument. One day yes 1gb would matter but not now, unless the 1gb cards had twice the power behind them to use 8xaa acceptably and extra features then it is a moot point imo. Consoles saved 1gb cards and amd/nvidia fixed the problem allready with their new high end cards.

CRYSIS AVERTED!!! :p

I'd recommend the 2GB GTX 560Ti's

or the

2.5GB GTX 570s

From what I can tell the ram isn't going to do much for the 3d gaming aspect but you definitely want to go NVIDIA for that. The ram will help with the surround resolution aspect. You'll be able to add more AA in surround and that makes things much more immersive.

AMD is the way to go for multi-monitor but Nvidia is the way to go for 3d so.....

I have seen video memory exceed 1GB in Crysis, GTA4 (don't expect to play this with an AMD card), and The Witcher 2 at 1920x1200. I haven't really tried too many games with this card just yet. I highly doubt that at 5760x1080 2GB of video memory wouldn't be very beneficial. There is also a big difference between 6950 and 6850.

I agree with the first part of your post but why can't you play GTA 4 with an amd card? I have played GTA 4 and EFLC completely through with my setup? Granted I had to work around a simple game/driver bug but it worked fine nonetheless.

I haven't been able to run it without some serious stutters on more than one machine with a couple of AMD cards. There is a thread at another forum where I see a few people complaining about the same issue. The game runs smooth as butter with a single GTX570.

played absolutely fine once I fixed the bug which detects your crossfire setup as a 4GB setup. I forgot the command but limit memory to .50 in the config file and once it reads 2gb your good to go, in fact you can't even change graphical settings until you do this. The game is very unoptimaized and has alot of memory issues. Played through it with a GTX 280 (GTA 4) and GTA 4 EFLC/GTA 4 and it ran fine with maxed settings in eyefinity. Some distance settings I had to limit but smooth as butter also

I don't know I couldn't run it without constant dips in framerate with three different machines on various drivers since 10.10e. I've heard various people complain about the same thing.

Being that he wants the Samsung 3d monitors that do not support nvidia 3dvision, but tridef, does it still make a difference with buying nvidia vs ATI?

here is an interesting review if anyone hasnt seen about vram usage. even at 1920x1200, 2 580s are just enough to run vsync in these games. couple games still struggle even with 2 cores. i dont know the performance hit you take if you only have 1gig of vram and trying to play some titles in that review, that would be some interesting info.
