Card question

Does anybody know if you can monitor the temp of this card with the software that comes with it? If I decide to play an older game would this card be better then the Gigabyte 6600GT?

It will be slower than an original 6600 GT. Not a lot slower, just a tad.

If you want faster than your old 6600 GT, you'll want to look at the 7600 GS, or the 7600 GT.

The 7600 GT can be had for around $90, unless you're dead-set on passive cooling.
 
I don't see any difference in the 7300gt and the 7600gs except for the PixlePipelines. Am I missing something?Do I really need more pipelines? The 7300gt is cheaper.

The 7300GT overclocks to 7600GS performance and beyond easily, especialy for 2 year old games and back. For todays games, more pipelines helps performance, regardless of overclocking. If your looking at games like HL2 and further back, I'd buy a 73GT and overclock the hell out of it. It's cheap.

Well consider two cards identical in almost every way, same family of chipset from the same mfg, same clock speed etc. However one has 4 pipelines and one has 8 pipelines. When comparing those two cards, the card with 8 pipelines will basically be two times faster than the card with 4 pipelines. Each pipeline works on a job, and if you have 8 pipelines that card would be doing 8 things each clock cycle, where a 4 pipeline card would be doing 4 things each clock cycle. (very dumbed down, and this is looking at same family chipsets, different GPUs will do things differently so it is not quite that cut and dry)
