hey, i have an Nvidia FX 5200, and i just got a ATI X1600 Pro, after installing the card and working the drivers everything seemed to be going well, then i booted up world of warcraft, there was massive screen tearing and corruption. then my comp kept locking up and shutting down. so now im back to my old Nvidia card, is the a crappy card? is my MoBo incompatible? or do i not have enough power?

my system is a dell demension 4600

2.4 Ghz P4 proccesor.
250W PSU
768 MB of RAM
40 GB HDD
(sry i can't find the rest of the specs......you know dell)

Tearing and artifacting is usually the card. Check a temperature monitoring program and make sure its not overheating.

Some games compress graphics stuff into card-specific formats upon installation. (GTA, for example. It does it on first load.)

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
