Recommendations for adding at least 4 internal SATA (3Gbps) ports?
I would like to add some drives to an existing system.
Future use with WHS a plus, but not a necessity.

I have 1/4/8 lane slots available.

I believe the HIghPoint cards are more reasonable in price and come with cables.

Currently they are not cheaper at newegg (that I can find) but I guess you can find some elsewhere.

There is also the SuperMicro AOC card

This is supposed to work on a special port that comes in some supermicro boards. Luckily this is really a PCIe port but the board is backwards (on the opposite side) so the bracket will not work in a PCIe slot without modification.

That one is actually a regular card and not one of Supermicro's proprietary UIO cards.

I don't know where this info came from :confused:
This is regular PCIe x4 card and it works perfectly without any modifications. It comes with both low and regular bracket. I don't see why somebody would pay $150 when this card exatcly the same.........

Almost every other Supermicro card is proprietary like they mentioned.

My mistake I thought it was the UIO version. Which I have seen for around the same price.

The other one (intel card) has a PCIe x 8 but that should not come into play with normal hard drives. I am not sure if both or either of these are PCIe 2.X or 1.X

Highpoint is awful imo, and even if it comes with cables, the hardware won't last long, even if it is just used as a basic controller.

OP, try going for that LSI, they have very good driver support and the hardware is about the same as 3Ware.
