hey, i opened up my computer to clean it and i noticed the capacitors next to the cpu were bulged. and a small amount of coloring on top. there was one that was flat, the normal one.

could this be a heat problem?
your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes that is just what motherboards do

At my school my admin has been having trouble with a certain type of board blowing the caps

Sometimes...when mobo makers use umm - questionable caps on their boards to save a few bucks..There was a time about 1 or 2 years ago now that alot of boards, mainly Epox and Abit if I recall correctly that had the problem. (as well as many ti-4xxx vid cards)

My suggestion is that if the board is performing fine leave it for now, unless you have decent soldering skills and want to pick up some replacement caps for the 'bulging' ones you have now.

The capacitors that failed were a result of a stolen electrolyte formula which was stolen by a employee of a good capacitor manufacturer who took the formula and started his own company producing capacitors. Unfortunatly he didn't use the proper amounts of all the ingredients and it caused them to buldge, blow, and otherwise fail. The only thing you can do is either wait for them to pop, or remove them and solder on good capacitors yourself if the board isn't in warranty anymore.

Not good. I would RMA the board if at all possible or replace it.

you could try soldering bit if you wanted.
