I have tried several times to update my Bios using a floppy. It seems to run OK, but when I reboot, the old Bios is still there. It reminds me of the alien spaceship in Independance Day after being nuked. It's an Award Bios.
Is there any alternative other than a floppy? (that is not windows based)
Is the BIOS set to defaults when you flash it, also the CPU??
Did you use the award flash utility??? Im just asking, I use the EZ Flash, its USB based and couldnt be easier.
my drives are all SATA including CD and they don't work under Windows 98 DOS. I disabled all of the caching and shadowing except the CPU. What is this EZ Flash?
EZflash is ASUS BIOS Flash utility. If you are trying to update your BIOS using floppy you are probably already using this.
If you aren't, you might not be doing it correctly. You should be writing the updated BIOS to you floppy and then updating the BIOS from the BIOS (using the EZFlash utility) itself. I think you can also do it right from windows.
The BIOS update should have two components, the award flash utility and the actual BIOS update.
Download the BIOS update, unzip it,then load that onto a floppy
You may need to make a boot floppy.
put a flop into the A drive,start>my computer>A drive>file>format>create an MS_DOS startup disk> click start.
Boot the comp using the boot flop.
when A:> appears, put in your flop with the utility and the new bios.
at the prompt, type awdflash then press <enter>
you should see the award bios flash utility screen.
in "file name to program" box type in the BIOS update file name (example 1201.bin)
when prompted press N if you dont want to save the current bios.
the utility will now start to flash the BIOS.
when complete it tells you what to do next.
Thanks for the help. The error I was making was in naming the old bios file "OldBios". The name I needed to use was the actual name of the original bios file w7025nms.1b0. It worked just fine then and I am good to go.
