Hello,

Could anybody help me understand why my cpu temp would be higher after water cooling than it was with air cooling. I just purchased the new Kingwin Arctic Liquid cooler, it's set up pump gpu cpu radiator 1 radiator 2 back to pump and it reads an average 42 celcius at idle. My previous set up was thermaltake venus 12 which gave me an average of 34 celcius at 3000 rpm, no overclocking has been done.

Is this the normal temperature for a A64 3000+, and a ATI Radeon 9600 XT???

Well...it's giving you bad temperatures because it's not a performance system. There's not really much more to say than that. You could remount the cpu block to see if that would help, but there's probably not much you can do.

Those radiators can't handle the heat from both the GPU and 9600 XT. The pump in that unit probably is nothing great. As a rule of thumb, any of those systems that fit into 5.25" bays are ones to avoid.

True. In fact, any high-performance water cooling system will need extensive modifications on your existing system case and a huge, expensive externally-mounted water pump/tank.

Heh, that's not what I'm saying. He's complaining about higher than expected temperatures (41 idle isn't horrible) when he got a value system. You don't need huge heatercores or external tanks, but you do need to buy quality components. You get out what you pay in.

Cooling your pc is one of the few areas where you really do get what you pay for. and quality doesnt come cheap. with memory you can buy some crap and overclock it but you cant exactly overclock a watercooling system.

I saw the idle / load temps on the test setup, and was blown away. I also just liked the fact that it all could fit in my case... Though, I failed to remember A64's run a lot hotter than P4's. So my next question is...

Is there any way to bring this system’s performance up? What parts would anyone recommend be replaced, and with what? I would like to run Idle around 32C, however money is kind of an issue.

I'm going to try to put my Venus12 CPU fan on the 2nd radiator, see what kind of temp that gives me, though the point of getting the kit so my PC would run silent is out the window...

Well, one 80 mm radiator sure doesn't do it alone, and I think that second one is so small it probably doesn't matter that much. The pump is probably pretty weak. The blocks appear to be the nicest things in the kit. You could buy a MaxiJet 1200 like mine for 16 bucks, a heatercore at a junkyard for 20, then a res for 20. Fittings and all, that's under 100 bucks.
