Can't Open Optical Drive

Hi,

I'm having trouble opening my Blu-Ray ASUS 12B1ST drive by pushing the EJECT button. The button will also not RETRACT the tray.

Is it a sensor that I need to clean or lucubrate?

Paperclip works AND the soft EJECT button from my ImgBurn software always will EJECT or RETRACT.

thanks,,

Speaking from experience, Asus has used really faulty button switches on their drives for a few years now. I mean I love the drives, they burn and read pretty well, but I always end up replacing them after a year or two because the buttons give out. (That and they start getting stuck and won't eject the tray all the time.)

A buddy repaired a broken one by cleaning up the switch, but it was a pain for him to do so I just buy a new drive every two years.

like foxhack said, you could try and clean the switch.
pull the drive and pop off the face plate. get some iso alcohol, liquid or spray and get some into the switch. let it soak for a few minutes. blow it out with compressed air(or use a bic pen tube, small side down and blow it out), then let it sit for a couple hours to dry. if its not physically broken, just dirty, this should get it working. I refurbed electronics mainly PCs and laptops for a few years and fixed MANY different switches and buttons this way.

I have 3 LG bluray's in the system and they have been faultless and have ripped several hundred disc's between them. Fantastic drives. If you decided to get another drive in the future :)

Have you check the belt (like a small rubber band) ? This has always been the number1 issue.
EDIT: If the soft button works, very likely it's the switch.

All of you, thank you for all your help, I may just as well get a new drive, as I've checked Newegg and they have it on sale about $39. Hope this one lasts a bit longer...
